And as far as the Pats making great moves all the time, the Seymour trade bit them this year. Their pass rush was anemic because they let so many good players go, and that's what killed them in the playoffs.

Personally, I'd like to see Pep stay, but he may have worn out his welcome. I think tagging him was the right call as without him Meeks' D wouldn't have been near as good. If it weren't for the baffling decision to start Jake well past the point of reason, his play very well would have been what put us in the playoffs.

We'll see soon enough. If he goes, I hope we pick someone up in FA.

Just read on that Observer article about it that Schefter had reported The Big Cat told an unnamed source that the Panthers were preparing to let Pep walk in free agency, or something like that...

If Big Cat said this, then it's over. Not only does this show how inept our FO is, it also shows how unprofessional they are and why they should be standing in an unemployment line.

You haven't even contacted him to gauge his asking price? He even made it clear that he was happy with the direction of the team and the defense's performance and was open to coming back... Yet, the FO hasn't even contacted him. Not only that, they promised to contact him, and didn't anyway. Way to be professional.

I just don't believe they would let him walk with no compensation. I don't care if we settled for a 3rd rounder if all they want to do is get his salary off the books, at least get something for him.

I felt kind of betrayed with the way he went about things last year, but I know it's a business. But, I also said I could see where he was coming from when you got dickheads like Hurney and Fox running the show. I'd want out too. Let's see how our DL looks next year when every game each guy on the front 4 will be easily blocked with a single blocker. This is ridiculous.

You gotta remember, this is supposed to be an uncapped year coming up. So, slapping the tag on peppers one more time and having him play here or trade him away shouldn't hurt us in the long run of things.

Saints can't make a big move for a free agent this year because they made it so far into the playoffs. I think any team who makes it to divisional playoffs can't can't sign big name free agents.

I could be completely wrong about this though, I just remember reading it somewhere.

Obviously none of us knows what the organization is thinking but something smells bad on this thing to me... throw all of this in with the deal they gave Delhomme last year and none of it makes any sense. I think Hurney and co. screwed up and don't have much of a way out of it now than either letting Pep walk for nothing or tagging him again and risking having to pay him that ridiculous amount if we can't trade him.

Honest question... can we tag him and trade him for anything? Like one second round pick? That would be better than letting him walk for nothing wouldn't it?

The Seymour trade did hurt them this year without a doubt. But the 2011 #1 pick they got from Da Raiders should be a top 10 pick and after a rookie salary cap is fully in place saving millions on top of the millions Seymour will require to be signed long term. Traditionally the Pats are pretty freaking savvy, it may be a good move, we'll see.
