Peppers contract Situation Discussion Thread (Dpanthers started it (^-^))

Peppers ain't going to sign his tender.

Unlikely we sign him long term.

On the bright side:

That saves us 22 million next year.

That's 4 or 5 top quality free agents.

Now, if someone else signs him long term, do we get any compensatory action in the draft?

I think we would get a 3rd next year..But thats nothing compared to a 1st round pick and choosing the team peppers goes too

not overly concerned about this.

He had a good year this year, but has been a model for inconsistency.

I've liked the progression i've seen out of C. Johnson, and think we can add some key pieces (WR, CB, DT) with the money we would tie up in Peppers.

Not to mention get Thomas Davis his new contract

This is Hurney's + Front Offices' faults respectively.

Peppers was just trying to get his, and the Panthers fell victim because they know they have no other player like Peppers on this roster.

Do you believe the Patriots would let Peppers hold them in cap hell? I think not.

The Patriots would:

a. have not signed Peppers to a contract that gave them no leverage to

trade him

b. traded his ass at 30 years old when he started demanding more

money just like they did Seymour.

How do any of you know it's not Richardson that's grown sick of Peppers.

Unrequited love is hard to get over, particularly a very rich man's unrequited love for a player he offered to make the highest paid defensive player in 2008 and that player said, 'thanks but no thanks'.

The result of tagging Peppers for one year resulted in Delhomme's bonus money.

IMHO, as said in the other thread, good luck Julius, it's time for both parties to move on.

    • Did I miss something?  The people we have developing players now are not the ones we've had in the past so I don't know what the heck people are talking about when they say we are not good at developing players right now.  We only have one year to go on.  Canales likes young players or players who are on an upward trajectory, especially in FA this year.  Past QB's and what he's done with Bryce are good examples. Tershawn Wharton - 26 Tre'von Moehrig - 25 Pat Jones II - 26 Bobby Brown III - 24 Michael Jackson - 28 Jaycee Horn - 25 Tommy Tremble - 24 We missed on Milton Williams but he's 26. Everyone else we picked up are on 1 year deals.  The Panthers new front office and Canales absolutely scream developmental team. Pick 8 (stay) Tier 1 Elite - Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter and Mason Graham Tier 2 Elite - Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, Will Johnson Trade down: There are quite a few really good players that fit us at Edge, DT, S and WR mid to late 1st and high 2nd.  Some combos that would be possible that I really like.  Imagine getting 2 of these guys by trading down. Stark, Pierce Jr, Golden, Scourton, Grant, Emmanwori, Ezeiruaku, Umanmielen, Deone Walker, Harmon and this is just off the top of my head.
    • Honestly, I couod see Pittsburgh  moving all the way to 3 to get Sanders. Their window is now and Tomlin  clock is ticking. Their roster doesn't have many holes, so picks shouldn't worry them.  Depends on the Giants mindset but they could bend them over and get future 1st since they don't have any 2nds.
    • I sometimes question why the mention height when most edge defenders are around 6'2.   Maybe it's bc he was a senior and then are nitpicking.
