....highest paid d player?

how bout, highest paid player in general?

peppers is gonna get PAID

Quite Possible! Peppers will definately be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. He'll get offers on the market that are larger than what Albert Haynesworth got last year. He might not get the largest contract in the NFL but it will definately be in the top 5. Jared Allen is the highest paid defensive player in the league at 21 million a year. Carey I bet will make sure Peppers makes more than JA. Peppers will get more than 21 million a year with 40-50 million of his contract guaranteed. Letting Pep walk will allow us to be very active in free agency which I view as the reward for letting Pep walk.

6 years for 120 million dollars 60 million guaranteed. <-- thats the kind of contract pep is looking for I believe.

Damn, he would be thinking he was twice as good as Jordan Gross. I am one who believes they are equal. Gross' ceiling and talent is not as high, but he is farrrr more consistent.

I know thats not how much he really thinks he is gonna get, but he is gonna want around 100 mil, and he is not worth that. Not even close, to be honest he is worth about like Gross' contract, even though IMO Gross is a more valuable commodity.

4/23/2008: Signed a six-year, $73.26 million contract. The deal contains $31 million guaranteed, including a $15.5 million signing bonus and a $4 million "signing" bonus in the second year. 2010: $6,380,100 (+ $4 million guaranteed-for-injury roster bonus due 3/1), 2011: $8,979,438, 2012: $11,619,850, 2013: $14,280,612, 2014: Free Agent

$12.21 mil per year.

some of you are fuging morons...

...like people that see free agency as a reward for "letting Pep walk"...

Free Agency happens regardless, and it is very possible that this will be a DOWN year in Free Agency activity due to not having a salary cap... Furthermore, without a cap, there is no penalty for paying Pep even $1 Billion dollars next year...

Per the NFL network, 5 mins ago, no contracts are being offered to any players until it's decided if this indeed a capped, or uncapped year.

...and apparently, that decision is not going to be made until some time after the NFL combine.

Hence, teams that offered too much money thinking it was going to be uncapped, and it turns out to be a capped year, have basically just screwed themselves.

great news. i'm on the fence about Pep as of right now. leaning towards wanting to keep him though. he has great talent and physicality. he just doesn't always use it. even with that last statement being said his numbers are still good. if he becomes consistent over the whole season I really believe he will break records, or at least help the defense do so. the price tag will hurt if we do indeed sign him, but cheap teams rarely win championships.

Everything you hear from Carl Carey or supposed leaks from unnamed "sources" are all potential bargaining tactics from Carey or the Panthers...

As with last year, Pep's immediate future rests in the hands of the Panthers, and if he won't sign long-term (the ultimate goal) he'll get the tag again...

If it comes down to it, that is exactly what will happen, and for anyone saying anything about him taking plays off or not being worth $20 Million next year, you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about...

Carl Carey is an imbecile from a negotiation standpoint, and if it weren't for a close personal relationship with Pep, he wouldn't even be an agent...

If you think it sounds stupid that we'd let Pep walk for nothing, then that's because it is stupid... Marty Hurney and Jerry Richardson are certainly (aside from throwing money at Delhomme) not stupid...

It doesn't even take insider information to know that you keep your best players, and if you have to let go of them, you get everything you can for them...

We've always wanted Pep to be a career Panther, and even his non-agent agent pretty much said that that is what they eventually wanted at the end of last offseason... What that non-agent agent fails to understand is that nothing is being done in front offices right now... In fact, the season hasn't officially ended... Some of you have hinted at it being inactive right now because of the questions about next season... Don't you think most owners/GMs are thinking about the same things probably ten times more than you are?...

Carey is impatient, and it's shown in the last few days more than it did last year... If it weren't for Carey, a lot of the issues with communicating with Pep wouldn't even exist...

I look for a long term deal to get done before February 25th (this is the last possible day to apply the franchise tag)... If it doesn't he'll get the tag to buy us more time to work it out...

I'll lay it out for you all and for Carl Carey...

If we tag Pep, it will likely be in an uncapped year which is good for the Panthers... Sure, he gets $20 Mil, but overall, it doesn't hurt the Panthers like it would in a capped year... ADVANTAGE Panthers

If we tag Pep and he or we want to ship him out, he'll have to sign the tag earlier to let us do the bargaining, but if he does that, he has little to no say where he'd end up... ADVANTAGE Panthers

If Pep decides to sign long-term with the Panthers, we'd likely hold the above two scenarios above his head as bargaining chips... That paired with his ability to stay close to home will mean we'd likely get him cheaper than most, although we'd still reward him for what he has done and what he is capable of and what he is worth... We all know that the answer to all three of those, regardless of hater banter, is a good amount... Fair is fair, and in the end, we'd be fair to Pep as long as he keeps doing what he's doing on the field... We'd likely even give performance based escalators to add motivation... ADVANTAGE BOTH

There are no other options, and for any writer or anyone employed by some sort of "sports authority" to think otherwise is illogical and uninformed... Simply letting Pep hit the market would be one of the biggest front office blunders of all time, and we already have had more than our share of those (Sean Gilbert, Jake Delhomme extension (this wasn't as bad as Gilbert, believe it or not), etc.)...

Have a little faith and trust in your front office... While it isn't rocket science, it certainly isn't special ed. either...

Couldn't have said it better.

I think we will see some movement one way or the other AFTER the Super Bowl.

Carey is a full blown idiot and was the cause of last seasons debacle. If we tagged him last season with LIMITED prospects, why wouldn't we tag him when Pep has come out and said he would play in any scheme.

I want Peppers here. However, if he doesn't want to be here then Tag him and work some sort of deal out. Whether Sign and trade or Tag and collect 2 - 1st Rounders.

One thing you didn't mention was the fact that if we were to tag him and he plays in '10 and '11 is a lock out. The next season he plays he will be 32 and many teams might be relucant to sign a 32 yr old to a long term deal. Which in my eyes is an Advantage to Carolina and a key selling point for us to get a DEAL DONE. What is your take on it?

Go Panthers

I was wondering if there had been any contract talks with anyone. (Panthers). Haven't heard of any. This makes sense given the NFL network report. Not a Peppers thing at all.

I bet the Panthers really hate dealing with Carey. The whole NFL is in limbo and Carey thinks it's about them. What a tool.
