Why did Delhomme suck so bad this year?

You mean the 8-8 Texans that stomped a mudhole on us? Jake had a good game because Steve Smith had 3 circus stunt catches including that long one where he escaped the whole Texans defense. That was all Steve Smith not Jake. But Ill give him credit, he did a great job against two terrible teams and a mediocre one that stomped us in 07. The fact is, Jake hasnt had a good season since 2005.

Jake was 27-41, 316 yards

Take away that long td

He had 242 yards, add the 5 which was added from the initial catch. He was at 247. The game wasn't over, so who knows where he would have ended up

Also not to mention it was multiple passes that was dropped by our butter fingers receivers. We got stomped out, cause the defense couldn't get any stops

My 2 cents.

Jake was never a great QB. A great leader, a gutsy leader, and a QB that was lucky more often than not. Jake was good enough to come in, and lead this team to a Superbowl. That was before his elbow was torn up, and before his post season collapse against the Cards. He hasn't been the same since. Can he get over it? I would think he is capable of getting over any major obstical, but, I don't think the team can afford to let him remain the starter to find out.

Yes, a very solid day against an 8-8 team that throttled us. Mostly thanks to Steve Smith but a very solid game.

We also lost because we couldnt score anymore after we went up 14-0. That crazy Steve Smith TD was towards the very end of the game during garbage minutes.

Okay so this thread got slightly off topic. I didn't intend to spark a debate about whether Jake was ever a good QB, because who ever argues against that is sorely misinformed. From 2003-2005, Jake was easily a top 10 QB. ESPECIALLY when the game was on the line. But after failing to meet the high hopes of the 2006 season (and breaking his thumb), he was never really the same. He had a hot start in 2007 before tearing up his elbow, and had a mediocre '08 with the help of an overpowering run game.

He has been steadily declining since '05 and the FO tried to make some moves at the position (drafting Stefan Lefors, signing David Carr, trading for Josh McCown) but none of them seemed to work out. The one that did seem to work out was the move that the Panthers staff probably didn't expect, and frankly probably didn't want to work out in Matt Moore. He was mainly brought in out of pure necessity because of all the injuries at QB in '07, and ended up showing he could be something one day. Now that he has more than proven himself to be more than a fluke, Delhomme is basically put into a "mentor the young guy" role at best. If he starts, kiss the season goodbye, because Delhomme has shown nothing but decline since '05.
