Battlefield Bad Company 2 Demo

One rule I didn't see in there that I am very cognizant of in the game (It's kind of a combination of "Know your class role" and "Choose where you spawn carefully"):

If I'm a Recon class, my job is to stay hidden, spot enemies, kill when it's opportune, and best yet, sneak into an enemy base and serve as a respawn point right in the heart of the fighting.

If you spawn on me, and then immediately open up with your machine gun, you have not only given away my position, and killed both of us, but now we have to spawn all the way back at the base, and as a result are out of action for much longer.

Come one now. We snipers go to a lot of trouble to find our perfect vantage. Don't give us away because you think if you use half a belt of ammo you can shoot the gunner out of a moving ATV 200 yards away.

Yep, that been me:eek: Never though about that. Thank You for opening my eyes. Sorry to all the snipers I've help to kill.:angelsad2:

They mentioned the inability to go prone in the video; I imagine that does get a bit annoying at first.

So far would you say it's worth buying?

Can't say yet. I'm only about half way through, a reportedly short 6-7 hour campaign. It's supposed to be about multiplayer so I'd have to play that first to give a fair opinion.

I played the first game about 30 minutes before throwing in the towel...I hated it that much. The no-prone thing isn't a deal breaker, but it does suck. I mean practically every military style game that I've played has included the ability to go prone. Ghost Recon, COD, SOCOM, etc. etc. And what kills me is that the developers of this game act like it's no big deal. Yeah, cause what real life sniper ever crawls around? What soldier wouldn't squat like a chicken and cluck his way across the battlefield as he's being fired upon with a machine gun? Pffft. LOL. I didn't even realize how much this pisses me off.

My god, I've never seen someone so prone-whipped in my life.

You want my opinion? If you're the type of player that spends any amount of time prone, then Battlefield probably isn't the series for you. Battlefield is a game based on constant, and rapid movement. By not having a prone feature, the developers are encouraging gamers to NOT stay in one place. It discourages camping. A player can't just crouch behind a shrub for long periods and try to pick people off; he'll get spotted. He has to MOVE AROUND. Jeez Louise, what a concept!

There's a name for people who lay prone in one advantageous spot for an entire round; they're called campers. And in case you haven't noticed, they're not very well liked. And the no-prone feature is, in my opinion, of of the features of BFBC2 that keeps the action moving.

Sure it's not "accurate," but if you want the most accurate military shooter, there's a recruiting station in your town somewhere. Enlist and you can lay face down in the mud all day long!

I unlocked the red dot sight for the M249 and its sweet. Also got upgraded health kits and light weight unlocked. Working my way up for the M60.

Dude your pretty damn nice at this game, I've even tried to watch and learn from you at times.... I am trying to improve, but it's not working... every once in awhile I'll have a score of 1,000 in a round but thats it.

I can shoot and kill when I see enemies, but I never know which route to move or take on maps.

I'm starting to just sit back more and revive people when needed.

Then when snipers or enemies are camped out near the base when I have to respawn there... ahh

I need like a damn training class on this game.... Only a few times have I had more kills than death.

Where did I ever say I want to be able to lay down and camp all day? That's not the point. But if I'm running across the map and some jagoff is laying down m-60 fire, it would be nice to be able to give him less of a target and maybe heal up a bit. I haven't played the multiplayer yet so I can't say how useful the prone position would be...maybe there's plenty of cover and nowhere to lay down and get out of sight anyway. That's the whole reason I'm not giving my full judgement of the game yet.

And for the record...in the real world "campers" are the real soldiers. You don't ever see jerkoffs running around like headless chickens. In fact, "camping" is exactly how wars are fought...you know trenches, foxholes, etc. I'm not necessarily fond of campers in games either...in fact, I've had my share of dealing with them, and I have very rarely "camped". I'm not interested in the prone position as a way of avoiding conflict...I'm interested in the prone position as a way to get my fuging head out of the line of sight when I'm behind a smashed up wall.

This game is so much fun. I love the game type where you plant bombs and move up the map. I was hiding on the side of a house yesterday thinking i was fully covered by the house only to turn around and realize the entire house had been blown to bits. Just standing there in the wide open like an idiot. I do have a major complaint that makes no sense what so ever. 4 person teams? You really can't invite anymore people and can't talk to other people? That sucks. We've got about 6 to 8 people that we play with and we couldn't figure out how to get all groups in a game. 4 man teams would be fine but let 2 or 3 4 man teams get into the same lobby. So dumb. We spent the whole night trying to get our friends into the same lobby. Im not sure who Shino45 is on here but i swear ill bring you into party chat tonight. haha. We get a little rowdy in there but we're just playing around.

Ah, well therein lies the difference of opinion. I can definitely see where prone could come into play in the single player. I really am just in it for the multiplayer. And I can tell you, that I have never once felt the urge to prone, it's a non-issue for me. That's not to say I run around like a madman. I will go to one spot, get a kill, wait a few second for the kill cam to be over, and then move. I have a feeling that if there was a prone, I would be inclined to stay in one place until I died or was found. You feel a little exposed and uncomfortable when you can only crouch, which is what I think the devs were going for.

And for the record...in the real world "campers" are the real soldiers. You don't ever see jerkoffs running around like headless chickens. I know that realworld tactics would be considered "camping." But laying in the brush perfectly still for 12-48 hours waiting for your target makes a pretty shizzy video game. Again, if you want total accuracy, hit the recruiting station.

But I can see where you're coming from. I just have no concern with not being able to go prone. Mainly I just hate MW2 and any insinuation that it is somehow a superior, or more accurate game because you can lay down bothers me.

Conversely, I think it is a strong testament to the quality of BFBC2 that the only real complaints I hear (aside from spotty connectivity for the PC) are nits.

Number one...give the recruiting station pitch a rest, I've already served my time in the military. Maybe that's why I prefer as much realism as can be had. Of course I understand it's a game, but leaving out simple, elementary tactics just irks me. Might be nitpicky to you but a lot of people feel this way, and most of the great combat games not only allow it but incorporate it as a useful tactic.

BTW...I'm not saying that it ruins the game, it just takes a little bit away from it, IMO.

You know Brit, for someone who hated BC1 so much I am surprised to see you like this one. I tried to get you to play BC1. You were almost there. Glad you saw the light.

One day soon I am going to join your game in progress and come take those dog tags.

My advice is to flank very wide. I move up some then crouch and scan while hitting the back button to call people out. Then move up some more. Sometimes you just have to pray that no one sees you running.

Call out those snipes so they can get counter sniped. Its gonna take a while to figure out the good spots to cover.
