Does playing in North Carolina suck as a professional athlete?

To your point I just don't think the Carolinas are a very good pro market. What that reason is, I have no idea. 

Cleveland, Cincinnati (although I've heard the other QC is on the upswing), and Indianapolis too.  St. Louis was one of the best teams in the league for a stretch in the early 2000s.

Having lived many places around the country, and currently in Texas (barf) I can comfortably say that Charlotte is a great place to live and raise a family.

If you are talking strictly the Panthers and Hornets, then yes, these are not top destinations.  Why?  Neither are good.  If they become winners, then players will want to come.  The same with fans.  Win games and they will buy tickets.

Cam is also from Atlanta so it makes sense he would want to build his business back home.  Reggie White retired in Charlotte and was not form here.  Someone mentioned Randy Moss, also not from here.  Many former Panthers stayed in the area, some more famous than others.

This is just my personal experience and it means very little but I wonder how it must feel playing professional sports in the “city” of Charlotte. I can’t imagine anybody on the Panthers roster puts on the uniform and plays “for the city” like they do in Pittsburgh, Philly, Dallas etc. There isn’t anything about Charlotte or Raleigh that make them “special” or unique, and they only have teams because of the population. 

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that so many former players ball out when they leave here. 

Your argument is kind of moot i would say by the amount of players that live in the area after they retire.
