The Who backs out of Super Bowl halftime

Who would you like to see there, Fiz? Who can appeal to all audiences that is relevant today? And you can trust them not to expose themselves on national TV?

well there aren't really enough non pop bands that are big enough to justify the spot.

but if I were in charge of it, and they told me they didn't care if it wasn't a huge name, then it would have to be someone young and energetic with a big stadium sound that could play their instruments well.

Some people think these decisions are made because of the old white guys at the network. These decisions are made by the old white guys who run the sponsors who have millions invested in the ads running at halftime. That's why we have McCartney, Springsteen, The Who, etc. Those old uptighy whities haven't even heard of the new bands and want something safe for their investment.

Let's build the perfect halftime band for the population of Carolina huddle. Hmmm, what do we know about this place?

-politically, everyone is "real conservative" tea party people that vaguely hate government, want to "resist," but don't really want to do anything.

-most people here are hopelessly out of shape

-most men here work in IT

-most everyone here over the age of thirty probably listens to Rush and loves whiny, overindulgent crap music with senseless instrumental solos

-probably be really amazed with a ridiculous set up for a live show

Hmmm, how do we combine all these factors into one. oh I know

Fiz has finally done something to make me think he's a moron.

Dude, you have to think of your entire audience, which is now on a world wide stage. You can't have the current hot indie band playing the Super Bowl.

Of all you posted, Radiohead could maybe get away with it, and Bowie, but by himself. If you want to make it as current as you can, and still be "cool", try Pearl Jam perhaps. U2's already done it.

Hell, next thing you tell us, you'll want Animal Collective doing it.

no one in the world gives a poo about The Who, I hate to tell you, and most of those bands are bigger on the world stage than they are domestically. AF and BSB are canadian, Bloc Party is british, and the National were the best touring band in germany last year. Germany has the most fans of NFL football too, btw.

we already know they will go modern with their Timberlake/Nelly experiments.

that would own

as i was driving just now and thinking about it, I really think the best thing they could do is have a meta 15 minute highlight of the best plays of the season, quick snippets of how each team got here, maybe a tribute to chris henry or something, and let explosions in the sky do the music.
