Greg Williams suggesting the Saints injure Manning or overreaction by Mike Florio??

If it stopped at this...

"This guy's got a great clock in his head," Williams told 104.5 The Zone, via ESPN.com. "The big thing is that he throws the ball so early that we're going to have to do a good job of finding ways to get to him and when we do get to him we're going to have to make sure he gets a couple 'remember me' shots when we get there."

...I'd be okay with it.

But when it goes to this...

"If it happens, it happens. And the only thing you'd like for me to say is that if it happens you hope he doesn't get back up and play again."

...that makes him a douchebag.

It's still just a game, and the people who play it are human beings, and often guys with families.

Want to hit hard, even hit hard enough to scare 'em? Fine.

When you cross the line to wanting to injure someone, you're a piece of $#@&.

I'd add this as well.

The Colts DL coach is a fellow by the name of John Teerlinck, and he has a rep for being one of the dirtiest coaches in the league. He's been known to train his guys to do cheap shots to take people out of the game as well.

Were I Gregg Williams, I wouldn't broadcast my intentions to hurt Peyton knowing that the guy coaching the Colts DL isn't exactly of high moral character either.

After watching the Vikings game I really dont think he is overreacting. Its one thing for players to do it in the heat of the battle, its another for the coach to tell them to do it. I see why we didnt hire this guy now.

Also if he thinks he is gonna get away with late hits on Manning he better think again. The Jets had the same Idea and Manning cut them a new asshole.

That right I mean When Lawrence Taylor broke Joe Theismann's leg he did laugh and say well its just part of the game.....

Psst. Note to Manning/Polian, this isn't ballet and you aren't performing at the Met.

An NFL defensive coach talking about getting after the QB.

I'm utterly devastated by the news. Cheap shots are cheap shots, yes, but talk is a whole 'nuther kind of cheap. It's the ref's job regulate truly illegal stuff if/when it happens. They failed last week in the Viks/Saints game. Sorry, but the NFL is just starting to look like Hooker Avenue in SF with all the grown men in skirts. Rattling the opposing QB's cage is (or at least should be) part of the game.

Disclaimer - I utterly despise the Saints, Gregg Williams, the Colts and Peyton Manning, but these comments to a media type aren't the reason.

Programming Note: Link

RBS Six Nations Championship, one of Europe’s biggest annual sporting events, will broadcast live on BBC AMERICA starting Saturday, February 6... ... BBC AMERICA’s first match will be from London, where England faces off against Wales, on Saturday, February 6, 12:00 p.m. ET / 9:00 a.m. PT.

Might actually be better than Saints/Colts. At least there won't be any overprotected special children and real hitting in play for everyone. Do the Scots wear kilts when they play in these games?

Now that I see it like that, I changed my mind....I agree, he is garbage for saying that.

I just pointed out this article to a co-worker of mine who's a Saints fan. He got visibly upset with me suggesting that Florio's interpretation of what Williams said is correct.

He tried to argue that Williams only meant that they were going "take Peyton out of the game" as a factor... not physicially.

LOL@Saints fans... they are scared to death of Peyton Manning.

Cocaine will make you act like that.....hey, maybe Greg Williams is on.......

Really Williams is worse. Taylor did wave for help when he saw how bad he was hurt. Williams prob would go over there and kick Manning in the ribs to make sure he was out.
