Greg Williams suggesting the Saints injure Manning or overreaction by Mike Florio??

There's an "Official Review" video on nfl.com where they say that the high low hit on Favre should have definitely been flagged. They also confirmed the hit on his where he lifts him up and drives him down was correctly flagged.

And yes, Williams did say early in the year he wanted to take Smith out of the game by trying to make him land on his head when he went up to catch a pass.

The Saints' Greg Williams is as dirty as the streets of the city he works for.

I really hope the Colts read these statements by him, then Freeney and Mathis can knock the poo out of Brees and see how Saints fans feel. If Brees had been hit as hard as Favre was ONCE then he'd be on IR by now.

Take Brees out of the equation and you'll have a pretty easy time stopping the Saints.

I think that the guy knows that the other team is going to try and come for Brees as well. The Saints and Brees himself seem to be pretty good at not letting that happen all that often.

This isn't the Cobra Kai dude telling his kids to sweep the leg - this is the coach telling his team to be aggressive, and if they get a few penalties because they mistimed it a little or followed through a bit too much, then he is not going to go off on them for it. Of course, his opponents are going to use it for motivation or to "prove he's a douche" so it can backfire.

While it's all perfectly legal, I think mistiming your "tackle" and following through too much ARE like saying sweep the leg. I think it's a fine line, but there is a difference in going for the sack, or trying to force the ball out, and doing NOTHING more than smashing into the QB a second after he throws it for NO other purpose than to drive him to the ground. That's what the Saints are doing. But hey, it's legal as long as you don't wait two seconds to plow into him.

It was obvious that the Vikings sent extra protecion out, which is why Favre passed down the field on them all day and Brees rarely did. The Saints were so worried about the Vikes D, they kept that extra protection in. Indy will keep the protection in, and Peyton will still have targets.

It should be an interesting chess match.

I am glad for the plays he did review but I would love to hear his explanation of the several ones they didn't have time for.

I love agressive and smash-mouth defense.

However, Williams always has been a dirty coach.

If he is publically saying they intend to hit Manning at every chance to put him out of the game, what do you think he is saying to his team in the locker room.

If they play this type of game, I hope the Colts defense breaks Brees in two. Karma is a bitch!!!!!

Put me down with the few who love it. I love the aggresive attitiude and never had a problem with it when he was with the Skins either. It's football not the ballet.

Sure he walks a fine line but his job is to get his defense to get to the quarterback anyway possible, it's the refs job to make sure they do it within the rules. (And the offensive line's job to keep them from getting to him)

People are either complaining that the NFL protects its Golden Boy QB's to much, or that Greg Williams' defensive strategy is harmful to the QB and the refs let him get away with it because a Hurricane hit New Orleans years ago. Some complain about both.

I just want to be entertained by the NFL, and Greg Williams' defense entertains me. Along with silly enzone dances after TD's, long walks on the beach, the music of Lady Gaga, and a day on the golf course.

I also do not have a problem with agressive and hard hitting defense. I do have a problem if those hits are cheap, late, and are intended to injure a player.

There is a fine line between agressive and dirty. Williams often steps over that line.

I don't know how the NFL hasn't disciplined this guy for always saying he's gonna try and injure the other teams marquee players. I no longer care about the game. I wanted the Saints to lose badly, now all I want is for Freeney & Mathis to hit Brees so hard his cancerous mole falls off. I want him taken out not only for the Super Bowl, but for a good chunk of next season as well. Perhaps a complete ACL or MCL or PCL tear would be great. fug the Saints!

Fair enough, but obviously they were not hitting Favre within the rules. They got flagged 3 or 4 times for personal fouls on Favre. There were also hits that were missed and should have been flagged.

I'm all for entertainment, but purposefully trying to injure a player is weak. It's a pathetic and uncreative gameplan because Williams is not good enough to stop Manning, and he clearly wasn't good enough to stop Favre without the foul hits.

Don't get me wrong, I love a hard hitting team that rattles the QB. But to come out and say you wanna take guys out of the game, that's just bullshit. Leave it to the Saints coaches to not want to win straight up against another great team, but to rather play the Painter. What a douche.
