The Book of Eli

It would be almost impossible to systematically destroy every single bible in the world even after an apocalypse. And why on earth did it take him 30 years to walk across the country?

Overall I thought the movie was pretty bad. I felt it could have gone deeper into the depravity of a world like that. What they did could have been accomplished in 30 minutes without losing anything. Character development was weak. I just wasn't very entertained.

SPOILER!

You lose your sight and try to walk that far! Can you imagine how many circles he walked in? lol

I can feel you on the depravity thing... I think they relied on the landscape to provide that, and the whole trading water and stuff... but that should be an understood in such a setting...

I think the development was okay... I would have liked to know more about the town, the trader dude, how antagonist got put in charge, etc...

I think you just have to be a fan of the genre and stuff like that to fully get this movie... No offense intended...

I thought the movie was amazing as well. SLJ covered it all really...damn you.

SPOILERS!

But I didn't even realize the blindness until about halfway through. That really cleared up some earlier aspects for me. As far as the Bibles all being destroyed. Wasn't the whole point that the "flash" wiped everything out and the whole point of everybody wearing glasses is the fact that the sun was brighter. Hence Eli not noticing his room light was really bright when Solara first meets with him after he talks to Carnegie. So, after all the Bibles being destroyed in the apocalypse, they rounded up any remaining ones and burned them.

Movie makes a lot of sense. Really invokes some thought.

i don't see why it's hated... there are some christian aspects to it, but there's a lot to be taken from it either way. and i guarantee you if you simply replaced christianity with eastern mysticism and made the book some kind of eastern scrolls, people would absolutely eat it up. the fact that denzel's character is a christian is the ONLY reason to hate that movie.

It's hated for the same reasons the book was burned in the movie. Some people just can't see the irony of that.

I saw it last week...the movie was blah to me...im probably in the minority but its probably because im a dirty muslim.

probably?

I watched it last night and loved it.

Faith man. Faith. He had to be there for Solara and her for him. And he had to memorize the whole Bible. Can't believe some things have to be explained....oh we're talking about faith....n/m.

I thought it was ok. I'm a huge fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, but I didn't find the setting of this movie realistic at all. Here society had collapsed and has been in shambles long enough for everyone under 40 to forget completely about the Bible, yet there seems to still be enough fresh food, gasoline, weapons, and ammo to go around. The characters never really drew me in, but the action was entertaining enough to warrant a rental.

Huh, that's funny, I watched it two nights ago for the 1st time and was mixed. The first half was really good but the holes in the plot and mistakes in the small details started to drag it down. Other than the interesting revelation near the end, the final 10 minutes wasn't good to me. Mila looked out of place as the movie went on and she really didn't fit well into the scenes or story as the ending drew near.

SPOILER!don't really get the point of the chick suiting up at the end, unless she was gonna go home and kick some ass on her way to the East coast to spread the word (hopefully, they let her read the other viewpoints before she left Alcatraz)...

Movie was solid, but yeah Kunis suiting up at the end was hacky
