The Book of Eli

Movie had a lot of potential. Denzel is a badass, naturally. Mila is hot, naturally. Setting/costumes were cool, action scenes were done very well.

But it's all ruined because of a retarded plot. Not just the ending and what the book is, but so much of what happens is illogical / doesn't make sense and takes away from the well sculpted post apocalyptic world they created.

I am saying most movie are illogical. So that should not be a huge turnoff

I wouldn't say most movies are illogical. Yes, movies require a "suspension of disbelief," especially if they are dealing with supernatural or other-wordly premises or characters.

That being said, even these fantastic situations must be presented logically, or else the audience feels cheated.

Finally got to watch it... GREAT movie... (I know that sounds crazy coming from me)

Allow me to explain...

---------------------------------------------------------------

WARNING!!!! SPOILER INFO AHEAD!!! DO NOT READ THIS PART IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED!!!

As much as I argue about faith and religion, I don't think there are bad things... (the bad stuff comes when people try to associate and personalize them, and then project that view upon someone else)...

The premise that Eli was letting his faith guide him was pretty good, especially when you get to the twist at the end... As unbelievable as it is/was, I can kind of relate to it in a way that he had faith enough in something (his self, even though they point more towards a higher power)...

I liked the idea that Bibles were burned after the war because people blamed its contents for causing the war and problems for humanity, but at the same time, the survivors of the apocalyptic wasteland saw the book's importance from two points of view... A faith based (moral compass, believing in a greater good) one, and a controlling one... The same exact thing happens every day... The good religious people, and the bad ones... In a way, this movie is probably prophetic in that aspect...

Also, at the end, when he puts the printed Bible on the shelf, did anyone else notice copies of the Torah and the Koran among others? I guess the Muslims and the Jews won the war? lulz... But yeah, it made me wonder where those came from... It also comforted me in a way that they didn't make it a strictly Christian movie from that aspect, but moreso an "everyone can be religious in their own way" type thing, even though it was from the Christian perspective...

I don't really get the point of the chick suiting up at the end, unless she was gonna go home and kick some ass on her way to the East coast to spread the word (hopefully, they let her read the other viewpoints before she left Alcatraz)...

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall, I give it a 9 out of 10... The cinematography and backdrops were amazing and probably pretty accurate to what post apocalyptic America would look like... The dialogue was good, even though it was kind of cheezy at times... The characters played believable roles...

Great movie though...
