Of the Athletes you have met, who was the nicest, and who was the biggest jerk?

Almost got my azz kicked by Rod Martin on an airplane---we were flying to Hawaii around Pro Bowl time. Long story short my buddy and I were flipping the traytables up and down when Rod gets up, turns around and nearly rips our heads off. Luckily, I had been convinced that as a joke we needed to buy Raiders hats in LAX during the layover---Rod spots us for a couple of fans and proceeds to autograph our hats and such. Nice guy.

Hoover lives really close to a friend of mine---we rode by his house on a warm day, noticed the windows were open, and yelled "Hooov!" We saw a buch of heads turn and Hoover wave from inside.

Gary Coleman---not so nice.

Nice people I've met: Muggsy Bogues, Dell Curry, Robert Parish, Ricky Rudd, Brett Bodine, Rusty Wallace, Dale Earnhardt, former Panther Winslow Oliver, Wesley Walls, Jordan Gross, Hollis Thomas, Stuart Appleby.

I've met three or four of the Panthers current coaches who are all very personable. Danny Morrison approached us in New Orleans when he saw our Panther gear and made a point to talk to us for probably 10-15 minutes and couldn't have been any nicer. I've seen Ric Flair several times in public, and while I decided not to go up and talk to him he was very friendly to everyone who did.

Oddly enough, the time I saw Steve Smith out at Olive Garden he was cordial to the few people who did approach him. However, every story I've heard from others who met him was that he was a grouch. Only first class jerk that I've encountered was Rory Sabbatini at Quail Hollow. Some kids were standing around the ropes waiting for golfers who had finished their practice rounds on a Tuesday and were asking for autographs. Most of them obliged, some of them declined politely, but Rory wouldn't even look at the kids, and said "No I don't have time" in an extremely snotty voice.

Wow you think he would have been pissed that he had to eat at the Olive Garden.

i was pretty young when I met Richard Petty at my Dad's Randleman high school reunion football game. He was extremely nice to me and my dad. I think Kyle was there too, but I didn't see him. He graduated with my uncle, and was said to have been a spoiled brat.

On that same note while I was attending UNCC, and Dale Jr. threw a new years party at what was Tipsy's at the time. Many people say he's a jerk, but I got drunk as hell that night on his bill, and then took the limo back to campus edge. Maybe it was because he was as drunk as the rest of us.

well, first one that comes to mind is Steve Smith. Will say I've had more exposure to him than most others and he is a punk/prick but if you're a Panthers fan then he's your prick. Will not talk to media, not personable at all, can only turn it on for his causes, but otherwise if it's not a cause or his schtick then he's a prick otherwise. How do you say this? Other players if asked for an interview will graciously find a nice way to decline it Smith is just an asshole with a chip on his shoulder to decline it. Ok asshole...

Nice players on the team now that I've interviewed:

Hoover, Delhomme, Gross, Kalil, Wharton, D. Will, Moose, no wonder why they stick around.

on Defense: Na'il Diggs, Lewis, Brayton, Beason, CJ Wilson, to name only a few.

I can see why Danny Crossman isn't on the team, and Peppers, Gamble, and Thomas Davis make you wonder how in the hell they graduated college? Really, they make you wonder how they even got into college.

Nicest: Peyton Manning- He was one of the first pro football players I've ever met, and he actually talked with me for a good bit. Even gave me an autographed Colts hat that I still have to this day.

Worst: Bill Belichick- Technically not an athlete but he wins my douche of the century award. One of my good friends was a lifelong Pats fan, went up to him out in public and Bill basically chastised him for 'bothering' him. I'd repeat the words used but they're really not appropriate. Needless to say my friend will not cheer for the Pats again until he leaves.

All of this. I would like to add that 90 percent of offensive linemen, if not higher, are good interviews with a sense of humor. Running backs and wide receivers are good interviews if coming off a big game. Quarterbacks are great interviews but you have the company line imbedded in each answer. Defensive linemen can go either way. Some are funny as hell, some are great interviews, and some are complete a-holes. Linebackers are generally good for a quote. Cornerbacks generally aren't the brightest bulbs in the marquee and safeties are typically good interviews.
