Viking radio announcer rips Favre

As awful a decision as that was, it's still true that Favre didn't lose that game alone. He had plenty of help, especially from Adrian Peterson.

Again, that last decision was just horrible, but when you look at the beating Favre took and the way some of his teammates fumbled the ball away, you could argue Favre was the least of the Vikings issues.

Whoever was out there on the field when he wasn't supposed to be is the guy who screwed up the Vikings chances to win in regulation. Not Brett Favre. Favre was trying to make a play downfield because the first guy cost them five yards that put them out of the kicker's range.

That'd be the fullback. Can't really put it all on him either, though.

The only thing I disagree with is pointing to things in the middle of the game so that "If this didn't happen, then xyz". That's actually intrinsically false because you have no idea what actually would have happened. Sure, Peterson doesn't fumble, they kick a field goal. Of course, the field goal could have been blocked and returned for a touchdown. Or the ensuing kickoff, or the first play of scrimmage. You have no idea what would have happened. EXCEPT for the Favre play. He keeps the ball, they kick a field goal. Who knows, maybe the kicker misses, maybe not, but Favre robbed his team of that opportunity.

It's like the old fable of the man who is given a horse, and everyone says how lucky he is. Then his son falls off and breaks his leg, and everyone says how unlucky he is. Then the military comes but doesn't take his son because of the broken leg, and everyone says how lucky he is. The only result that can be positively identified as good or bad is the last result. Thus, who knows? Maybe Peterson's fumbles were actually extraordinarily lucky. And who knows, maybe Favre keeps the ball and the Vikes lose anyway. However it shakes down, the last mistake is the most important.

Did anyone else notice the RB wide open on that same play? If you have TiVo or dvr you can see the running back slip out near the sideline with no one close to him. Looking back in slow motion the defender dropped back into a deep zone and looked lost! Farve never even looked at him. If he made that simple pass to the RB the vikes probably would be going to the superbowl now. One aspect I haven't seen mention...
