Is it possible to play any dirtier than the saints defense just played?

So taking out a QB's knees after the ball is long gone, that's legit?

I never said it was, and I don't condone that kind of play. I'm seeing a lot of people claiming that all our hits on farve were cheap. I call this the farve card; you can't hit him because he's old, a legend, etc... It's as bad as the katrina card (which I hate). The man puts his pads on like all the other players and steps on the gridiron. He had better be ready and able to play.

I'm all for fair play, I hate cheating. Don't let your haterd for the Saints cloud your judgement of fair play.

Yea guys only SOME hits were cheap...give the saints credit.

Cheap shots are a part pf the game whether you like to believe it or not so no one should be pissed. However, it is pathetic to see a player go so low to try and win. But they got away with it, happens all the time even in the playoffs.

You can quote me for this one though, the Saints are not winning the super bowl. No offense, I don't get all the hate with the Saints I really don't care, but even with 6 turnovers (?) they barley won in OT thanks to a couple penalties, which were also the reason they were even in OT. That would be like the Cardinals barley beating the Panthers in OT even with all Jake's interceptions. Take out all the stupid mistakes by vikings (aka Colts) and you have a blow out.

Please keep pulling against us; it's working like a charm. You've been wrong for 2 straight weeks now, lets make it a third!

I seem to recall a thread from you saying that you were gone.

We all knew that we could not be that lucky. We all knew that you would sither out from under your rock once again and stink up the place.

Congrats to the Saints and the city for the win....too bad their fans on here are still complete fine young males and losers.

Pierre Thomas did NOT get that first down. The ball was hit and moved backwards. Meachem did not make that catch, it was clearly on the ground. The refs were obviously scared for their lives not to make those calls. Just horrible.

there was no clear cut evidence that meachem dropped the ball(hence it not being overturned) and if thomas did not get the 1st down why did no vikings protest the call. they knew he had made it.

You may or may not like it but it's a totally legit football strategy to knock the QB down - especially when the QB is 40. The only person that can do anything about that is the refs and they didn't flag most of those hits, so they were legal.

Despite all those shots on Farve, the Vikings had plenty of opportunities to win this game and they blew it... fumbles, 12 men in the huddle, etc, etc...

If I'm coaching a team and the only thing standing between me and the SB is a 40 year old QB, you best bet he's gonna spend most of the game on his ass... even if I have to take a couple of penalties.

It will be very interesting to see what happens if they try this with Peyton Manning, refs may go out of they're way to protect Manning in the SB.

The ball was clearly trapped against the ground. It was as plain as day. On the Thomas run the ball should have been spotted back some and then measured.

it wasn't clearly trapped against the ground. you couldn't even see the ground/ball with fox's shots.

again, if thomas didn't make that 1st down the vikings players on the field would have protested like crazy. we see it every sunday. but they didn't, they had a defeated look.

The saints have got lucky all year with getting turnovers, I don't think they are as good as they seem. Adrian Peterson can't handle the ball worth a damn and the saints just got lucky. Vikes had 6 turnovers and the game still went to OT. Saints fans I would be worried going up against the Colts. They will not turnover the ball like the Vikings did.

Any team, including ours, will no doubt do whatever they want or can unless the officials stop it. Unless the refs step up and prevent it by throwing the flags EVERYTIME it happens, and possibly throwing players out for blatant hits, a team will continue such antics. Hey, the Saints won. There were some bad hits in the Colts/Jets game as well that went uncalled. It's up to the officials to enforce the rules.

I thought the Meachem catch was a trapped ball. However, it was too close to call and there was not enough evidence to overturn the call. If the call had been called incomplete on the field, it would not have been overturned either. It was too close and the evidence was not there.

I also did not think that Thomas got the first down on the 4th down play. However, it again was just too close to change or overturn anything.l The play was reviewed, but spots of the ball have to be blatantly missed for the ref to change anything.

Both calls were close and both went the Saints way. However, that is part of football.

Neither the Vikings nor the Saints looked like they wanted the game.

The Saints offense was anemic in the 2nd half. The Vikings kept turnign the ball over.

The Saints D made plays when they needed them. For this, I will give them props. They got the turnovers that they desperately needed. Some of this was good play by the Saints and some was just poor ball security by the Vikings.

It was an exciting game....but quite frankly it was also an ugly and sloppy game.

The Saints found a way to win and they deserve their trip to the SB.

    • I mean it's not even like this was his worst game of the season... I'm not done with him by any means but this feels more the norm for him than the exception:/
    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
