Can Bryce Young throw deep?

And I can argue that some of the Bryce Bashers just want to find reasons for him to fail...

If he fails the team fails and is set back at least the next two or three years. So your stance is there are people who want the team to remain a failure? One could argue we should be able to discuss what improvements are needed with any player on the roster without people interjecting and suggesting they just want the team to suck.

Showing a big reason why the Saints couldn't get back over the hump for the past decade. Gotta be able to hit the home run on occasion vs. top competition when the opportunity presents itself against.

I just can't take this.  I'm sure you're a really nice guy but what mf'in hump on God's green earth are you talking about.  Brees won the SB in 2009 and then proceeded to go to the playoff in 7 of the next 10 years and was only 1 and done in the playoffs twice.  If you actually mean the hump is winning the SB then there are only 12 QB's in the history of the NFL with more than 1.

2020 - Wildcard and Division

2019 - Wildcard

2018 - Division and Conference Championship

2017 - Wildcard and Division

2016 - none

2015 - none

2014 - none

2013 - Wildcard and Division

2012 - none

2011 - Wildcard and Division

2010 - Wildcard

2009 - Division, Conference Championship, and won the Superbowl

Seriously, am I being punked?

Brees won a title and from then on if we're being honest did a great deal of stat padding throughout the regular season for the next decade or so. Never went back to the SB. He's undoubtedly a hall of famer. But that's how I see it full picture.

Genuine, serious question how was Brees stat padding?  I just remember him torching us many a time. Those 2010’s saints teams ran into some dogs in the playoffs, and got screwed out of a Super Bowl appearance in 2018

I'm not trying to argue he wasn't a really good QB. Just saying the truth is his numbers do have to be looked at with a grain of salt so to speak after what we know of that era now.

This article is a pretty solid summary of what I'm getting at.

lol are you serious

I'm absolutely serious and yes, the objective is to get back to the Super Bowl and have a shot at winning, not to lose by one score in the playoffs year after year after year vs the best competition. For example, prior to the 2020 season Brees had only completed one pass over 35 air yards since 2017.

Quote

Brees didn’t elaborate too much when asked why he was focused on throwing a 60-yard pass. But it doesn’t take a statistical genius to figure out what has been missing from the future Hall of Famer’s game over the past two years.

Brees' Dwindling Deep Passes

Brees' attempts and completions that traveled 35-plus yards in the air beyond the line of scrimmage including the playoffs, have mostly trended down over the past six seasons, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

YEAR CMP. ATT.
2014 8 21
2015 6 15
2016 4 10
2017 7 15
2018 1 8
2019 0 5

Brees has completed only one pass that traveled more than 35 air yards beyond the line of scrimmage since 2017, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

https://www.espn.com/blog/new-orleans-saints/post/_/id/33372/how-saints-drew-brees-got-creative-to-make-his-41-year-old-arm-feel-live

Has there been any other QB making it to the Super Bowl over the past 20-ish years that has that kind of limitation and doesn't have a legendary defense, a la Peyton being carried in 2015? No, certainly not Brees in 2009, and it's not that an offense has to consistently air it out but rather that they have to be able to capitalize on the few mistakes that a defense may make when the opportunity presents itself.

Another more recent but absolutely relevant example: Alex Smith in KC. Exact same scenario as Brees; HOF playcaller, plenty of weapons, wins a lot in the regular season, can't get past the best in the playoffs. Enter Mahomes, who has a lot going for him of course but most importantly can make defenses pay downfield when the opportunity presents itself. I live in KC so know the Chiefs well; Mahomes was the only thing to change from 2017 to 2018, when the run of AFCCGs began, and the addition of Spagnuolo gave that extra element that Brees and the Saints had (defense) when Brees' arm was lacking. The rest is recent history.

The teams that win Super Bowls can do that, and the threat of going downfield is always there. It's not a guarantee of success of course and football is a team sport, but that element is a huge advantage and possibly even a necessity in today's NFL. After a season of watching Teddy Bridgewater and us living it, seeing the defense collapse in and the offense just stop the second half of every game, Carolina fans have lived that limitation firsthand.

I already told them this with basically the same evidence. You're wasting your time. The naysayers think there's something magical about an NFL field vs. a college one.

it's not the size of the field it's the speed of the game & you beat speed with arm strength which produces more velocity on the ball & less time in the air.so with that said the issue becomes not how far you can throw the ball but more importantly how long does it take for the ball to reach it's target ? because of course the longer it takes the ball  to reach it's target then the easier it becomes  for the defender to get a read on the ball & berak up the pass  or even intercept the ball...just sayng..

honestly & logically speaking NO unfortunately i have no reason to believe Bryce Young has the arm strength to effectively throw the ball deep in the NFL & it also is not of course the only but one of the primary reasons you have Thomas Brown instead of Frank Reich calling the plays now.& for the life of me just can't nor understand why people think you can just  change play callers or let's say get a WR1 who can burn & just start all of a sudden throwing the ball deep on teams ? because at the end of the day you can only do so much with what you have to work with & that's been alot of plays that resemble a Qb playing point guard passing  the ball around in the halfcourt on average give & take  5 to 25 feet sometimes on occasion 50 maybe even 60 feet not yards...
