is there any doubt that peyton manning is the goat now?

On the last MNF show, Ron Jaworski asked Jon Gruden with all the coaches (Mike Shanahan and maybe Cowher) coming out of "retirement" would he (Gruden) coach again?

I thought is was interesting that without even taking time to take a breath and said. "Manning!" If I could coach a Manning, I would be out of retirement now! "I hope that Eli and Peyton get busy and start cranking out sons!" He stated that he would coach them from Pee Wee into the NFL!

some of the records he holds...

Most seasons 4000 or more yards 10, Peyton Manning 1999-2004, 2006-09

Most consecutive seasons 4000 or more yards 6, Peyton Manning 1999-2004

Highest Passer Rating, Season, 121.1, Peyton Manning, 2004

Most games 4+ td passes season 6, Dan Marino 1984, Peyton Manning 2004

Most consecutive 4+ td passes games 5, Peyton Manning 2004

Most Consecutive Wins, Regular Season, by a Starting Quarterback, 23, Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts, 2008-2009

Most Consecutive Starts by a Quarterback to begin a career, 192, Peyton Manning, 1998-Present

and as a rookie...

Most Pass Attempts, Rookie, Season, 575, Peyton Manning, 1998

Most Pass Completions, Rookie, Season, 326, Peyton Manning, 1998

Most Passing Yards, Rookie, Season, 3,739, Peyton Manning 1998

Most Passing Touchdowns, Rookie, Season 26, Peyton Manning, 1998

not to mention that he's close to a few other records and there are some that are really within his reach.

he should be able to pass the all time passing yards record and all time passing TDs record in 5 years. he's only behind farve and marino in those. the only HOF QB with a higher career QB rating is steve young. his career passing yards per game is higher than anyone else.

it's doubtful that any other QB has had more successful control of his offense than him.

imo, there is little doubt that he is the best of this age to play the position and a strong argument could be made that he is legitimately the greatest of all time. when his career is over there will probably be very little room for argument.

takes more than rings to be considered the greatest of all times. it doesn't hurt but brady having so many doesn't hurt his case. he only has three records, though, and doesn't rank near the top in most categories like peyton does.

if brady had more years like 2007 i'd consider him more for it but he hasn't and i doubt he will have anything close to that again. brady has peaked and he and the pats are on the decline.

plus, i would make and argument that brady is more of a system QB than peyton.

brady benefits form the system/offense that charlie weis installed and belichick has been using ever since. peyton is the system in indy. that whole offense is built around him and run by him (for the most part).

Nice post Razyor. Only one Greater still IMO... Unitas, He owned most of the records after he retired. In an ERA were the rules were much tougher for a receiver. The 1st EVER to break 40K yds. Not to mention the 46 Game TD streak which may never be broken.

Many scream Elway, Montana or Marino but no QB was tougher, a better field general and leader than Unitas.

Peyton has alot of the tools Unitas had. You could see the patience while figuring out what the Jets were doing. Then the Colts Started to move the ball and it was game over.

So IMO the GOAT wore #19 not #18.
