Let the John Fox Naysayers suckit

Ya I said it...everybody goes off and on the bandwagon of John Fox and Marty Hurney each year we do good or bad each season but before them we really didnt have much going for us. Look at this year and at all the head coaching positions that are available. Also the stat that an avg of 6.5 coaches get hired and fired each year. If you still dont agree with me read this article from the charlotte observer:

Black Monday -- but not for Panthers

The day after the regular season ends is traditionally called "Black Monday" in the NFL, because that's the day head coaches usually get fired.

Anywhere from 2-5 usually get the axe on that day. I remember wondering -- along with many other folks -- whether Black Monday was going to impact the Panthers last season when John Fox had just gone 7-9 and missed the playoffs for the second season in a row.

Nope. It didn't. Jerry Richardson stayed the course, which was the correct thing to do. I advocated Fox getting another season back then, but I certainly didn't expect he and Carolina would go 12-4 this season. As much as I criticize Fox for his conservative approach, that's one heck of a job by this coaching staff, general manager Marty Hurney, the scouting department and so on.

Meanwhile, the New York Jets fired Eric Mangini, Cleveland fired Romeo Crennel and Detroit got rid of Rod (0-16) Marinelli, all in the past 24 hours. All of those teams will be looking for turnarounds like Atlanta, Baltimore and Miami had this season, each team making the playoffs with rookie head coaches.

NFL stands for "Not For Long," as the old joke goes. But Fox has been here a pretty long time now -- 7 seasons, or exactly as many seasons as Dom Capers and George Seifert put together. You've got to hand it to him for his survival instincts -- and for the team he has right now, which just may be his best yet.

What do Atl., Balt., and Mia. have in common besides new HC's? Shinny new QB's. Was it the new coach or the new quarterback responsible for the better record? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Id say the quarterbacks have alot to do with it but as you see from all of those teams this year the defense and all the role players have stepped up to get this team where its at..seems like the teams that have the write type of management structure and no nonsense coaches are the ones that do good...not the shiny coaches..a la wade phillips, eric mangini, and scott linehan.

Look on the opposite end of that and you have a lot of teams that had QB issues and finished horribly. When Fox had those issues last year he still kept the team respectable at 7-9.

Cleveland, Oakland, Kansas City, Detriot, St. Louis - none of those teams had more than 5 wins.

Panther fans got spoiled and impatient with the talent we've had the past few years.

I am just going to put this here because I am not making a thread about it.

But is anyone else worried about how we will come out and play after this playoff bye?

Especially after we came out and played after our regular season bye.

I am legitimately worried about how we will play after this bye.

Yes, we will be healthy, but our offense was on a roll. Will their rhythm be compromised?

He still has problems. Keeping games close instead of putting games out of reach is going to bite him in the ass.

Tru but we did win didnt we?? the truth of the matter is Id pick him over almost any coach nowadays excluding tony dungy, and Bill Belichick.

The only time we have ever had a losing season the most games we lost were 9.

excluding 2002 as a new year the years we had a losing record was due to injuries.

2004- 7-9 steve smith and running backs

2006-8-8 stephen davis and others

2007-7-9 quarterbacks

and any time we got into the playoffs we were atleast in the national championship game.. that has to say something bout the guy.

With all the talk the last couple days about coaches getting fire, I listen to what people think of as the criteria for a successful coach and Fox has everything people talk about. He didn't mess around trying to find that perfect QB, he found Jake early and has stuck with him despite his inconsistencies. He has a rigid formula for building a team and sticks with it. He doesn't get seduced by flashy talent and sticks with solid, consistent players over players with more upside. He's drafted well and doesn't break the bank on FAs.

I also want to point out how everyone was claiming successful teams would model themselves after the Pats and their passing attack after last year. If you look at teams in the playoffs this year only the Colts and Cards are passing teams. All the top seeds run the ball well and play good defense.

Squirrel's just trying to stir up trouble, as squirrel's are likely to do. I was just down in Chapel Hill with the family for the holidays and they have multiple bird feeders there. I had a field day shooting squirrels with a pellet gun coming in to feed on the bird seed, it was awesome!

Not as much fun as Squirrel had watching WV beat UNC, but it was still fun...

Fox has a good plan for the team but when it doesnt go according to plan he cant adjust. No reason for that many losing records just because of injuries. The only one he gets a bye is last year. The rest he just didnt adjust.

But yes Saturday was a great day.

Im not saying hes perfect Im just glad we have an owner that sticks with his guns when we are down instead of firing away just like everyother owner does in the league. Look at Jeff Fisher of the Titans that guy has had some pretty lousy seasons but hey look at him now!!
