Why is this team the "CAROLINA" Panthers?

As my name suggests I live right on the border. I love SC alot more. Becuase I lived close to charlotte my parents had nice jobs in charlotte. But because we lived in SC we had a much better house and lower taxes. The school I went to was wayyy better than any in charlotte as well.

I wouldn't want to live on the SC/GA border though, ewww.

JR went to school in SC and Clemson/USC were the coices for the stadium while erricson was being built. I think the inclusion of SC is legitimate.

You guys should be happy SC is included because charlotte couldn't sustain the panthers by themselves.

Because we are so effin' awesome that we represent two states...

Maybe Buffalo should change it's name to the New York Bills.

Might make them a little more respectable.

New York already has 2 teams carrying its name, but hell they play in Jersey.

And the Washington Redskins play in Landover Maryland.

The New England Patriots represent 6 states even though Boston could easily carry that team by itself. It just shows respect for the region. New Hampshire is probably never going to get and NFL franchise, and neither is South Carolina. I think it's just a way to let less marketable states feel like they have a team that represents them. It's not all about the dollars and cents.

Good point, though I would bet including other states, as the Patriots have, is yet another way to make money.

As you said, it allows residents of "less marketable" states to identify with the team. And how do they do this? By buying jerseys, tickets, etc.

It's just a smart thing to do. Why limit your customer base if you don't need to?
