Rex Ryan guarantees the win vs Colts

Yes, but how many teams have disappointed in the regular season only to excel in the playoffs?

It doesn't matter how a team gets in -- only what it does once it's there.

Yes, but guaranteeing a win against a team you were losing too a few weeks ago until they put in a QB that can't throw, run, or do anything else is kind of stupid.

The only reason the Jets are even in the playoffs is because their last 2 weeks of the regular season were against backups.

It was only 15 - 10 in week 16 when the Colts faced the Jets by the time Manning and the starters got pulled. That by no means would have sealed the victory against the Jets. The Jets put San Diego away in the 4th quarter after beating them up with the running game. Who's to say the same wouldn't have happened against the Colts?

And the Bengals rested their starters after they already were getting beat down by the Jets. You could say that they had nothing to play for, but the Jets proved further that it was no fluke the week after in the Wildcard.

I don't see why guaranteeing a win is stupid. Before the game, I would imagine it can only bolster your players' confidence.

Assuming they then lose the game, well, so what? Rex Ryan looks like an arrogant prick to the vast majority of posters at the Carolina Huddle, and his players give up on him entirely, right?

Humble is not just a delicious brew.

Swagger and confidence is one thing, being an arrogant ass is another.

Dallas was over confident and being pompous and look where it got them.. In a puddle of their own self-defeat.

Hell the Saints have a reason to be arrogant, and obnoxious after their lopsided win, but do you see them running to the media exclaiming they expect to walk into this game and wreck their opponents? No.

Coaches like Rex won't last very long if they continue to talk poo, and expect no repercussions.

Again I hope Peyton destroys the cocky sonofabitch.

I think you guys need to take a step back and read the quote. I don't see anywhere that he guarantees the win, nor do I see where Ryan says he's going to "wreck their opponents."

Can someone point it out for me?

"I'm confident. There is no question about it," he said. "We're going into the game expecting to win. I'd be shocked if we don't. Absolutely would be."

Most of what is thought to be poo talking by Rex is simply him being funny and sarcastic. He doesn't take himself seriously and neither should anyone else.

And on those occasions when he is serious, ala, saying he thinks he has the best team in the NFL and should be the favorites for the Super Bowl...It obviously fires up his team. It also shows that he has all the confidence in the world in them. I wouldn't want a coach who doesn't go into the playoffs thinking their team shouldn't be favorites.

I loved his dad and I love Rex Ryan. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. A nice change from the constant "coach speak" that you usually hear. (Although I do understand why many don't like him).

Anyone remember Buddy's part in the infamous Bounty bowl?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bounty_Bowl

The Eagles defeated Dallas by a score of 27-0, Dallas' only Thanksgiving game shutout. During the lopsided game, vitriol came to the surface on the field as the rivals got into several skirmishes; most notably when Dallas placekicker Luis Zendajas left the game with a concussion following a hard tackle by linebacker Jessie Small after a kickoff.

Following the game, broadcast on CBS with Pat Summerall and John Madden calling the game, Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson alleged that Ryan had taken out a bounty on two of his players, Dallas (and former Philadelphia) kicker Luis Zendejas and quarterback Troy Aikman. Johnson said

“ I have absolutely no respect for the way they played the game, I would have said something to Buddy, but he wouldn't stand on the field long enough. He put his big, fat rear end into the dressing room. ”

Zendejas claimed that when he was with the Eagles, a player had once received $200 – $100 each for hits on a punter and kicker. This is what led his coach Jimmy Johnson to make the accusation that a bounty had existed in this game as well.[citation needed]

Buddy Ryan responded to Johnson's accusations:[citation needed]

“ I resent that. I've been on a diet, lost a couple of pounds. I thought I was looking good. ”

Back when Buddy was coach of the Eagles, his kids were ball/water boys and Buddy made them steal opposing teams signals, classic!
