Anderson Cooper in Haiti

The crazy thing is, hardcore journalists and professors in journalism schools would HATE this. A journalist is never supposed to get involved in these kinds of situations. They're never supposed to participate in any way (which is necessary because being uninvolved is what keeps combat photographers relatively safe, and allows journalists to tag along with hostile guerrilla groups). Journalists are supposed to report the news, not make it.

But I have huge respect of Anderson Cooper. He absolutely did the right thing and he is one of my favorite journalists. I probably would have never cut it as a professional journalist because not only would I have helped the kid, I would have tracked down the guy who threw the cinderblock and smashed his face into the ground.

Good point. I hadn't even considered that.
