Injury Question 2

Captroop

Recommended Posts

Was inspired by the first thread to get an opinion from the Huddle community.

I have taken Krav Maga, the Israeli hand-to-hand combat style, for 14 months.

Yesterday, while attending a gun-work seminar, and practicing one gun disarming technique, my partner got a little over-excited and put his elbow into my face...hard, shattering my shatter-proof glasses lenses and the glass sliced a half-inch gash next to my right eye, literally 5mm away from my eyeball. There are eyelashes caught in the shards of my broken lens. Let's just say, a half inch to the left and it would have been lights out for ole Captroop.

I should add that I am only sighted in my right eye, my left only is about 20/60 with a contact lens in, not even good enough to drive.

I should also add that this is my third close call in 3 weeks. Two weeks ago, a guy we call big country (6'5", 280 lbs) caught me flush on the cheek with a left hook and left me woozy for a few hours. Last week, a noob throwing wild punches poked me in my right eye with a fully extended punch.

I love Krav, but I also think that I've gotten three warnings, and next time I might not be so lucky. These were all flukes, and there is no way to protect yourself from a fluke. So the question, in the immortal words of The Clash, after three close calls, "Should I stay or should I go?"

What would you do? Man up and get a pair of sports glasses (and pray you don't get another direct shot to the eye), or do you say, as much as I love Krav, I don't want to go around the rest of my life with a permanent injury, possibly blindness; I'll join a regular gym.

Thoughts?
