Matt Moore = 1st Rd Qualifying Offer

Jake only played one game in 2003 before people were sold on him.[/quote

Moore didnt step in earlier in the season and rally back in the game for a win, he came in a threw an interception, Delhomme came in when the game was half way of down by 17 and brought us back to win. Moore was put in the same situation and didnt perform on the same level as delhomme did that game.

If so, then we will be looking at a season much worse than this one. I don't see Jake shaking whatever he's got in his head to be the QB he once was. If Fox can't put the team over his own intuition of what he thinks a QB should be then he's exactly the coach I thought he was. ONE THAT BELONGS SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Fox is pretty easy to figure out....when he says that if Jake wasn't hurt that Moore would not have been given a start......I believe him. If Jake is on the roster he will start week 1 next season.

Look the guy came in and he performed well, but how can everyone be so sold on him after 5 games? He put up some good numbers and I think he deserves a shot next year in training camp. Think back on Derek Anderson... had a pro bowl year a couple years ago, and now look he didnt turn out to be the QB they thought he was. And Peyton Mannings numbers in December? Peyton didnt see alot of playing time remember? Colts benched their starters, Moore and Manning? Come on if you could choose who would you really want?

Moore pretty much looked identical in starts in 07 and 09. He had a tad more talent in 09 around him though....

pretty sure, we know what Moore is to some degree.....he is the best QB the Panthers have. Now, Carolina needs to dump the other 2 QBs and draft a guy and bring in a legit vet and have a legit competition.

I never said he wasnt our best choice as of now... Just I dont see how people are so convinced after 5 games? McNown Hasnt had a chance to play really because of injuries for all we know he could come in next season. And we have Moore and 4 other quarterbacks on the roster...

I would prefer that they tender Moore, might as well make it the top dollar one as well. We need to keep him for next season and I doubt any rookie would come in and perform better. If someone is willing to give us 1st and 3rd, so be it, unless the contract is favorable!

I do NOT want us to sign him long term NOW, pay more than we should and then find out he is no better than Delhomme. Many QBs have 'hot' periods or seaon and then return to mediocrity. So I would rather see him perform next year and then sign him long term. So what if we end up paying more, I just think 8 starts is too few to sign someone long term to what will bound to be over paying.

Finally someone who sees where i'm coming from. Totally agree

How many NFL games have Colt McCoy or any of the other more highly-touted quarterbacks entering the draft won?

In my opinion, Moore is a much better option than any free agent available this year. Whether or not he's better than some of the quarterbacks in the draft remains to be seen, but he's certainly done as well as could be expected in his few games starting.

If a rookie came in and played as Moore has this year, we would all be convinced that we had found our franchise quarterback for years to come.[/QUOTE]

The highlighted quote from BB's post pretty much says it all. I hadn't thought of it that way before but , it is remarkable. Let's assume Moore had been drafted by the Panthers 3 years ago in the first or second round. Then sat the bench (like A.Rogers) and learned as he has done as a #3 QB. And then was given a chance to start and performed as he did...........would we be having the same discussions or would we feel we have our QB for the future?

Waiting to see how he plays next year and trading him away for picks are two very different things. I'd venture to say that most of the people who want to keep Moore here -- myself included -- are not ready to sign him to a long-term contract just yet. We'll wait until he bombs his first playoff game to do that.

Matt's a gamer. I'm not saying he's the end all for our QB options, but he certainly needs to be retained for the shot. Try and draft another if the timing is right draftwise to hedge in case Delhomme's time is running out as it appears it might be, but keep Moore in the fold, he's a gamer...

already know what Josh brings to the table.....he has started more than his fair share of games.

Jake and Josh should not be on the roster next year. draft a QB and bring in a legit vet to compete for the starting job.
