What will we do with our 1st round pick...

Smithers

The one that we get when we slap the 1st round tender on Moore (Restricted Free Agent) and a QB needy team betters the offer, which is not much for a young starting QB. I don't want it to happen, but do not think that it is outside of the realm of possibility.

So i assume no one here thinks that Moore would command a late first rounder if they could sign him for less than 2 mil a year? I don't think it would happen, but do think that there are teams out there that would give up a 1st rounder for a QB with 3 years of experience and proven success. Teams such as San Fran (who has 2 first rounders), Vikings (if Favre retires), Tampa Bay, Washington, Oakland, or Seattle.

The only way we get a first rounder this year is if they want to trade Williams... Or we trade ours next year with an additional late round pick. Draft isnt everything so I hope we just ride this year out and stick with what we have.

Sticking with what we have didn't work this year...granted the QB situation killed us. But remaining stagnant in the NFL these days is a recipe for disaster. Regardless, I think we should keep Moore and Williams, use the few picks we have for depth, and add a WR in FA. I just started this thread because the possibility always exists.

You might be on to something here. Maybe if we thrown in the water boy, and one of those smoke/fog machines.....it might just work.

Lets look at the teams that you think is looking at a QB, shall we?

SF- They had winning success with Alex Smith and have other problems then at QB, not likely to need a QB except for maybe a vet to back up Smith.

Minn- Could use a QB if Farve "retires" so I agree with this team

TB- Firmly believes in Josh Freeman and is still in development... Give them time, not likely to get a QB

Wash- May draft a QB but Shannohan may stick with Campbell

Oakland- Might be a possibility

Seattle- Might be a possibility

Out of all those teams, three may be a possibility. One team that you did not mention is Arizona... Which since they were in the playoffs, I don't think they can sign any free agents right? But with Warner retiring and the team not high on Leinart, look for Arizona to look for a QB as well

    • Your thoughts? I don't think the trade up or even down value system stays exactly in place this year. Look at all the bad trades that hurt teams that give away too much (49ers for Lance, even us w/the Bears set us back). What trade up except Mahomes/KC was it really a great trade for the team giving up a lot? Same with trading down. Teams will know you don't want to pick and they won't be giving the store to move up because there is not a generational talent to do that for. Now, I believe these possibilities.  The Giants probably won't take QB-Sanders at 3, it's too much pressure if it doesn't work. They don't really need another edge rusher with Carter. I can see them possibly saving face, trade down to even the Panthers at 8 but not asking for a kings ransom. A 1st round swap, a 3rd and 4th and maybe next years 2nd and 4th could be enough without giving up too much. The Giants save in pay and in public opinion and then they can take Sanders or even another QB. For the Panthers to drop down, it has to mean their top 3 picks are not there. Do they take TE-Warren if he drops in their lap at 8 (I do like that)? I believe they would love to drop back but again I don't think teams will pay a lot to move up unless they want a QB before the Saints (our only hope for a good value).  I'm not picking a player, just thinking of the draft in general and value. Reaching doesn't work and more and more teams are realizing that.
    • With the new DL, we should be better at edge by simple addition.   What player would have the biggest impact on the Panthers?  I still see the plan to trade back and take Emmanwori if we can find a trade partner.  Why, you ask?  S is a huge need and they have really only looked at 1 visits/meetings.  We will try to trade up for Princely in the second.  A WR in the third  (Bech or Noel).
