Bears DE and former Clemson star Gaines Adams passes away

It's always sad when someone dies, especially when they have no had the opportunity to experience most of what life has to offer. It is especially sad that in Gaines case, it was a health defect that likely could have been caught, especially considering NFL players are likely tested for next to every possible problem.

Making jokes at someones death is inexcusible. I understand if you disagree with false sympathies, but that gives no excuse to make base and crass comments about someone. All you are doing is trying to make light of the fact that everyone will die, suggesting you either fear the thought or that you have little value for living. Either way, many people will take offense to jokes and I am sure those who have posted in this thread know this, meaning the only reason they have posted is to create arguements. In a thread in a public forum, it is extremely bad taste and a touch pathetic. Freedon of speech is one thing, but openly trying to create arguements in a thread dedication to a decreased man is another.

However, I think celebrity deaths are somewhat blown out of proportion, with some people saying what they feel 'should be said', despite them having few to no emotional connections to the deceased. I understand both sides, but can only really relate to one.

I wasn't looking to start a fight. I knew some people would find what I said humorous, and some of them were even bold enough to post so in this thread. I knew some people would find it tasteless and neg rep me, but I figured that would be the end of it.

But after the 6th post with some fat loser screaming at me from his virtual rocking chair to "get off my lawn you damn kid" and telling me how I'm morally inferior to him, really based on absolutely nothing, yes, I started arguing with them.

Fact is I do a ton for my community, and have for a long time. I'm an Eagle Scout, and you don't get that by being completely devoid of morals, as it seems I don't have any according to this thread. The fact that I choose to make light of death instead of conforming to the established rule that death = somber and serious has nothing to do with what kind of person I am. Meanwhile, most of the doofuses calling me out do nothing but post fake condolences for a deceased player's family in between binging on Doritos and Mountain Dew.

The thing that really amuses me is that if I had said yesterday that Gaines Adams blew, I wouldn't get much of a response. But now that he's dead, everyone turns into his mother if you say that he was a useless turd of a player. "DON'T YOU DARE SAY THAT ABOUT MY GAINESY!!!!" Funny how every famous person becomes amazingly great and talented after they die.

Oh yeah, except for MJ. Stupid pedophile.

I don't think anyone in here is proclaiming Gaines to be a good player. He was a man like anybody else. That's why this is sad, not because the Bears are missing a player.

Although I will concede that I won't say you're morally-bankrupt all because of your previous comment. Crass, sure. But that doesn't make you a bad person. I mean, you're an Eagle scout. ;)

Seriously though, I used to have one of the darkest senses of humor. Still do, to a degree, but it just seems like it fades a bit with each passing day.

Smoot,

If a close family member of yours died, would you have a problem with someone making jokes about it?

A. It's not like I'd run on here and tell everyone about it. That's just asking for it, not matter who you are, to tell a bunch of internet strangers your personal life. I'm not that stupid.

B. On the off chance that I did, and someone made a joke about it, no. I might even laugh if it were actually funny.

Now I know Gaines Adams didn't have a choice about everyone knowing about his death, but if you pay me millions of dollars per year, you can make fun of me or anyone in my family dying for all I care. Have fun.

What a great way to top Smoots.

Sorry, I just don't believe he went around blowing little boys. Now he probably did do things that we would considered inappropriate (sleeping in the same bed with a young boy, etc) but I seriously doubt anything sexual happened.

Dude, that post is so full of fail it's ridiculous. I mean, all your posts were fine up until that. "Oh he might've slept with a young boy but nothing sexual happened." Even if that was true you act like that's nothing (merely inappropriate?). Sure, let him sleep with your son then. Would you want him sleeping with you if you were still a child?

Smoot,

If a close family member of yours died, would you have a problem with someone making jokes about it?

No matter what he tries to say the real answer is "Yes, I would have a problem with it" (depending on what family member - mom vs. great grandpa, etc.).
