CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Moments after Boris Diaw’s dominating performance, Stephen Jackson pulled the Bobcats’ power forward aside for a quick chat. Across the locker room, Charlotte point guard Raymond Felton was showering Diaw with superlatives.

The Bobcats had just beaten the San Antonio Spurs 92-76 on Friday night for their franchise record sixth-straight home win. But all they could think about was how good they could be if Diaw permanently ended his season-long funk and played like he did against the Spurs—26 points and 11 rebounds—every night.

“I told him after the game that we’re going to be hard to beat if he’s aggressive,” Jackson said. “There are not too many 4-men in this league that can handle the ball, shoot, pass at that size. I think he frees up a lot of stuff on the offensive end for me and Gerald (Wallace) when he can pick and pop or make plays for us.”

Wallace added 21 points and collected five acrobatic blocks and four steals as the Bobcats took control with a dominant defensive stand that bridged the third and fourth quarters. The Spurs went more than 9 minutes without a field goal, and the Bobcats’ 19-2 run put them ahead 70-57 and secured their sixth win in seven games.

And now even Diaw is playing well. It was less than a month ago that Jackson and Wallace criticized Diaw for his passive offense and lack of rebounding. With Diaw seemingly finding his groove after Jackson’s acquisition, the Bobcats are full of confidence.

“The way he played tonight, if we can get that the rest of the season, we’re going to be all right, man,” Felton said.

Another impressive DOMINATING win for the Mighty Bobcats. We imposed our will on the Spurs defensively in the 2nd half and our guys stepped up hit big shots when it counted. Tomorrow night we face a Phoenix Suns team that lost on a buzzer beater to ATL tonight. It'll be interesting can we keep this momentum going. BOBCATS!!!!!!!

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
