He's best as a 4-3 OLB. The only other position he's a decent fit at is SS near the line of scrimmage. Unfortunately he doesn't have a position in a 3-4 and he's definitely not a nickel or FS. Reminds me of when Thomas Davis was drafted and they kept trying to make him a S when it was clear he didn't have the speed to cover on the back end full time.

Not sure why this staff once they decided to move to a 3-4 (and really a 3-3-5 for the vast majority of snaps) decided to hang on to him. Should've traded him this past offseason once they realized he wouldn't be a fit.

He’s too talented to ship off and would be a rockstar on any team, but he doesn’t fit this defense at all. It’s a bad position to be in.

Not sure he is ever gonna be that guy. He would have to bulk up a fair amount.

The difference isn't as great as you might think.  Check it out:

Not that it matters, Chinn will never be a 3-4 LB.  He would probably be an outstanding 4-3 Will where he can use his speed.

Thomas Davis at the “joker” position was the reason they finally beat Vick in 2005

I was gonna make a thread about this but chinn is the prime example of organizational rot occurring under tepper, ruhle, and now reich.

you had a player that looked like a perennial pro bowler his rookie year and was second in ROTY voting.

the team then changed his position, put him where he wasn’t comfortable, and have maybe ruined him. Bad coaching early on is difficult to overcome. They’ve coached his instincts right out of him.

unbelievable that the team didn’t watch his rookie tape and build their defense around him doing that.

Different frame, IMO. It could work out but not in this defense.

If I have to choose between Chinn and Evero, Chinn is the odd man out.
