Interesting conversation this week...

I think it is more than just a rah rah thing or even leadership. I was listening to Pat Kirwin on Sirius and he said that if your quarterback isn't the hardest working most intense guy out there, you have the wrong guy at quarterback.

The point is that the quarterback is the leader and needs to be working harder in practice, watching more film, and generally demonstrating by his actions how important football and winning is to him. Much like Beason does on defense. He needs to set an example for the rest of the team. It isn't at all about how much pressure he feels in the game or how athletic or talented he is. It is about what kind of role model and leader he is on the field.

It is also interesting to me that Fox really values that kind of intense guy on his team. I constantly hear from whiners and complainers that Fox doesn't care, isn't intense enough and claps instead of chews people butts. Sounds as if he might decide that the intensity needs to come from his players while he play more of a supportive role. Sounds like he very much values intense hard working guys on his team and wants Moore to be that guy. It also explains why Jarrett gets little time. He isn't intense enough as well. I guess we need to stop drafting west coast laid back California guys since obviously they lack the personality for Fox.

Something is definitely wrong here......:D...Santa Clarita Valley's, The Signal, says Moore is the next best thing since sliced bread.

Moore is on record as saying that he wans to be a winner. All he wants to do is win. Being cool doesn't mean you don't give a poo. I guess Fox prefers animation. How ironic. Fox prefers the flapping and waving of hands

:willy_nilly: Guess who?

That hurts being a product of Cali myself. We only produce the best, trust me, just look at Smitty.

Remember that Dwayne Jarrett is from NJ and went to USC.

Smith is from inner city LA. Not at all like the rest of California. Lots of California folks were borne elsewhere but they went there or live there because of the laid back lifestyle. As for the best? Best what?

had an interesting conversation this week within someone within the organization. We didn't meet up to talk Panthers in particular, but I couldn't help but ask a few questions.

When I asked about Matt Moore, he had another perspective I had not heard much. Fox preferred Delhomme, McCown, and even Cantwell to Moore, but not because of anything on the field. Mainly, it was a personality thing. Fox described Moore as being"not a football player". It comes down to nothing on the field, but simply a personality conflict.

Moore is a pretty laid back guy. Tends not to take things overly serious, maybe not even football as much as the next guy. This clashes with the type of player Fox likes to use. But it may also explain how Matt is able to come into big games with all that pressure and perform the way he did.

Anyways, just throwing that out there.

so basically, the guy confirmed Fox was bias and just doesn't like Moore.....which many people assumed early on this season. Nice to know we have a coach that refuses to play talent and just opts for guys he likes. Great coaching.

That jives with everything I have every heard about why Weinke sat the bench, and he put Jake in to replace Peete, over Weinke.

Absolute exact same thing. Some ponder why Moore has been kept around if that is the case, well ask the same about Weinke.

I believe it without a shadow of a doubt.

Everyone want to win like everyone wants to be rich. Laid back guys talk about it but don't show it day in and day out. Its called a lack of drive and focus. If you have coached at any level you know what I am talking about. And you also know that what you are talking about is out in left field. It is funny how people try and make excuses for matt's football persona. It doesn't mean he can't change or get with it, it just means it is holding him back from being as good as he could be. I hope he does what Williams did after talking with Vinny, rededicate himself to improving now that he see the ring is finally in his grasp. Imagine what he could accomplish if he actually took things more seriously, practiced with a vengence and gave 100% every day. He reminds of Peppers- talent but lacks the drive. Hopefully he comes around.

Yep. Everyone sees Moore talent and figure with time and maturity he will develop the intensity he needs. He has the tools to be good he just needs the drive to be the best. Maybe like Williams did in 2008, he will see that he can make the jump to outstanding rather than adequate.

Has the team named Moore the starter for the 2010 season yet? Most teams have declared their teams starter for next season (ex: Vince Young in Tenn, McNabb in Philly, etc). Just curious why the Panthers havent done so.

Well those teams at least have a guy thats proven I dont think Moore will be handed the starting job.He will get a chance to win it IMO in TC

I am not saying that there isn't something to it. All I am saying is that it's amusing coming from a man whose most consistent show of emotion seems to be the chewing of gum (and the occasional clap and slap on the booty).

And, no, I am not suggesting that Fox isn't serious about football.

Not even close. What the guy confirmed is that moore has been holding himself back by not preparing adequately and taking things seriously. Football is a vicious intense sport that requires passion desire and a killer instinct. Look at any sport, the guys who rise to the top are the ones that are intense, driven, and do what it takes to be the best. Right now Moore has not demonstrated it. It takes more than talent to succeed in this league. Jamarcus Russell has talent but that isn't nearly enough.
