League proposes immediate changes to rookie pay

Should be interesting to see how this all unfolds. Nobody can really say what will happen, so we'll just have to wait. But, I think we can all agree that a rookie salary cap is really needed.

Some of you talk like these guys are being "screwed", and I can kind of see what you mean, but they'll still be making an insane amount of money for a 20-25 year old.

Not to mention most of the rookie pay scales I have heard tossed around actually take all that extra money from the top picks and spread it across the whole draft. So unless you are going in the 1st round most likely you will be making more or around the same.

In other words if you are projected to go in the mid rounds (2nd-later) then really you aren't losing money coming back (unless of course of injury or bad play but that is the case with no pay scale).

The added benefit is also the relative ease (once established) of rookie contract signings. So holdouts will be reduced (lets face it humans are greedy it isn't going to be stop completely). It also would helps GMs with the salary cap considering they already know a close ballpark figure of there draft pick far in advance.

All in all this should have been done years ago. I just hope a CBA can be reached before 11. If there is a strike I will be devastated.

THe only guys who get crazy money are quarterbacks and guys in the top 10. Look at Stewart. He went 13th and made 2.7 million this year. Not that much really. He is also locked into a rookie deal for 5 years. Under some of these proposals you would get less but would be a UDFA after 3 years so your big payday comes earlier if you are great while your gravy train ends early if you are a Jamarcus Russell.
