I Need To Get This Off My Chest

I think sometimes we confuse what a coach says to the media, who he is famously uncooperative with, and what he says to the team. Fox isn't ever going to be Dennis Green/Jim Mora, screaming, cursing and crying during press conferences. If that's what fans want and expect from their head coach, Fox needs to go.

This.

I can't believe people actually take that line as representative of what a coach is really thinking.

You guys need a: :chillpill:

Well, when you break it down, "it is what it is" is a true statement. It always is what it is. A turd is a turd, because that's what it is. I mean a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. PLayers say it because an acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. An acorn is an acorn, because that's what it is. Before you get all dressed up with nowhere to go, remember that absence makes the heart grow fonder and if Fox leaves, you might not know what you got till he's gone. We all know a leopard doesn't change his spots and it appears there is no light at the end of the tunnel, but like a lost dog in high weeds, we'll be ok next year and find our way to the playoffs. I might be looking at the world through rosy colored glasses, but Lord willin' and if the creek don't rise, Fox will get us back into contention. If not, well, it is what it is.

I don't necessarily agree with it, but Fox's "is what it is" attitude is mostly for the benefit of the media during press conferences. He believes (with good reason) that anything he reveals could get blown out of proportion and/or may give opponents a competitive advantage.

I'm sure he encourages players and other Panthers employees to take the same approach when dealing with the media. It may not even be Fox's idea, Richardson is a man who believes in playing his cards close to his vest... have you even noticed that he seems to go out of his way to avoid any display of emotion good or bad when sitting in his owners box during a game? I obviously haven't watched him for a whole game, but anytime they focus on him, he has his poker-face on.
