Maybe it’s copium, but there are some seriously low expectations regarding acceptable physical talent for a number 1 pick.

Too many college football fans maybe?

He needed to be picked MAX where Brees was. 2nd round.

Criminally limited for a 1st round QB.

We shouldn’t have trade up and drafted him at one. Go ahead and accept that, but the point is he is showing some progress and who knows maybe he can develop is our future QB. That would be a win we desperately need.

This is what stood out to me most today.  Sure, he looked better when they were up 18+ points and running prevent defense and we went uptempo, but the throws that were there early in tight windows that he couldn't complete were my biggest takeaway from today.  I think it was Chark he tried to complete one to in the back of the endzone early and it was probably only 10 or 15 yards, but it felt like that ball, even with a low trajectory, just hung up in the air forever.  He just didn't have enough zip to get it to there when he was open and it allowed the defender to close the gap and make a play.  This happened two or three times on similar passes in the first half.

Point being, I've seen enough.

I will say he threw a handful of passes into the end zone that were placed absolutely perfectly. None of the relievers caught them but they were great throws.

He isn't a bum but I have a fear that he might be Colt McCoy, basically.

He can’t throw that’s the entire point.   He floats his passes.

But he CAN throw decent passes. See his 2nd TD. He is physically able to do it. Most of his passes today looked decent from velocity, just two terrible reads on the INTs.

He can throw average-ish velocity if he can maintain his base through his throws. Once that breaks down, it gets way below average VERY quickly. That's the big problem.

I've seen enough to realize that we traded a ton of assets to draft a guy #1 overall who needs to be surrounded by a great supporting cast to have a chance to compete. That sucks. Because the trade seriously cripples our ability to build that. Feels like we're being sold on another 7 year process.

I dont think people really realize how fuging insane it is that we traded a legit #1 WR (I maintain DJ is a top 5 WR in the league) as part of thr package to move up for Bryce, and then are now rumored to be giving up more assets to try to get a "#1 WR" like Jeudy, who isn't really a #1 WR.  That poo is certified, batshit crazy.  And it's not even taking into account that no matter who they add, it's not going to make Bryce any better.  The more I watch him, the more I realize he just doesn't have the ability to make the players around him any better or excel.  When you traded up to #1 for a guy you basically have to hide and hope the cast around him can carry him, you fuged up big time and set your franchise back for years.

There are many things I like about Bryce. Both these guys are good human beings and have talent. I'm still going to watch and see how the rest of the season goes. But I can't delude myself and pretend we didn't look at the QB with the clear best arm talent available and say hey no thanks I'm good. That's going to take some more time than a month. Hopefully we get a real head coach in here next season. In the meantime this season the team is only sinking further. The locker room is only going to take so much of this too. Defensive players are already basically giving up. It's going to get uglier.

That’s fair.

He really needs to stop those throws where he literally jumps in the air like a frog with his shoulders square to the field and then tries to throw. What in the poo is that? Nolan Ryan couldn't generate any velocity like that.

I will say he looked a lot more comfortable and loose throwing the ball after those picks. He did have some nice throws after that. So maybe being afraid to make mistakes has been his issue. But still not enough to really make me excited at this point.

I noticed that too, it’s almost like he finally faced his fear of throwing another pick that he got over it a little.

    • The agenda was building around Bryce.  2 WR, 3 olinemen, TE, and a potentially elite RB.  I stood up for Bryce all last year because I didn't think you could evaluate him properly with what we had last year in coaching, play calling and personal.  Bryce was the 2nd least pressured QB in the last 2 weeks because of the money Morgan spent on the line.  Despite Bryce looking horrible I'd say Morgan has had an exceptional beginning as GM. Here some more things I liked. Trevin Wallace looked like a banger in preseason.  Resigned Brown.  Gave Horn his 5th year option and Horn is playing very well. *Flipped a 7th round pick for a starting CB in Michael Jackson who has also played well. Filled a depleted roster with solid vets and if you really look at the cap this is a 2 year play.  Almost everyone except the 2 elite guards signed a 2 year deal. Did not pay Stephen Gilmore 10 million for one season. *Got the 0-2 Rams 2nd pick next year. Set a culture and tone of the type of players we want.  *Dawgs. *Elite GM moves.
