Can we afford both Peppers and TD?

Davis' value dropped significantly with the knee injury. He will be affordable to keep if he is re-signed this offseason. However, if he stays healthy next year and puts some distance between his next contract and his knee injury, then he will get paid more.

The question is, how good is TD going to be after this injury?

With all the DT's on the team, I actually think you'll see Kemo released.
DTs we have a surplus of. specifically NTs, though, that surplus is needed. those big guys are hard to find. you have one on you roster, you don't let him go. you have three and all three have been injured in the last year or are at least susceptible to injury (thats what i call being old) and you need all three.

we have 6 DTs that i believe we can count on going into next year. 3 NTs and 3 UTs. if we are only going to keep 5 then it needs to be 3 NTs and 2 UTs...especially since we have brayton and johnson who can fill in at that capacity when needed.

If we bust our balls to keep Peppers then that means we have no confidence in Charles Johnson and he will more than likely not be a Panther when his contract expires. It just wouldn't make sense to keep breaking the bank for a DE if you have other DEs that you are just as confident in.

That is one of the reasons I get so pissed off at this management. We draft LBs in the 3rd round when we have quality LBs (James Anderson), we draft DEs in the 2nd round and trade 1st round picks to do it when we have quality DEs (Everrette Brown).

It is a given this year that we will draft a CB and DT when we JUST drafted a DT last year in the 3rd round (Corvey Irving) and 2 DBs (Munnerlyn and Martin). Meanwhile we haven't drafted a successful WR since 2002. It is just an endless pattern of drafting players we already have because we screwed up the year before as well as drafting players that we continually miss on at certain positions (QB and WR).

My point is that we wouldn't have to worry about paying Peppers if we were confident in the guys we have drafted. Instead we have 2nd and 3rd round picks sitting the bench and hardly contributing while this year and the following years we will spend 1st round picks on shoring up those needs.

Your logic would make sense if we only needed 1 or 2 guys at a position rather than a rotation. Your logic would make sense if rookies could come in and play better than guys who have been here and performed at an all pro level for years rather than needing years to develop (particularly a project like Johnson when he came into the league or Brown last year). Your logic would make sense if guys didn't get injured and we didn't need depth.

But since we need a rotation, need to keep stockpiling guys and developing them even while we still keep the starters, and we need to have depth in case of injuries, your logic makes little sense.
