Rank Positions of Needs

WR- we need to, HAVE TO finally find the WR to compliment Steve Smith THIS offseason.. this has to be the year- if there is nothing else we do- this has to be done..

DT- the depth is there, but still very little interior pass rush.. our DT by committee is well and all, but we need a clear cut starter at both DT positions.. is Kemo the same? does Hollis stay? does Lewis stay? is Cory Irvin anything special?

QB- I have this as #3 only because we need to figure our what we are keeping and what we arent.. i am one that thinks Moore should be handed the reigns.. i have seen enough to trust him.. but we need to figure out if we keep Jake or McCown as a backup

PR/KR- we have been one of the worst team on ST.. we need to figure out how to get a legit Kick returner would help..

SLB- Diggs is getting older.. Conner doesnt look to have the speed for the position (solid backup MLB), Anderson might be somebody to look at but we need someone to cover the TE

K- Kasay's job until he wants to give it up.. is Rhys a FG kicker? or do we have to find someone to replace the original Panther?

O-line depth, DE if Peppers leaves, CB depth and FB if Fiametta isnt ready

Until we know what will happen with our potential UFA's and RFA's (the list is quite long) this will be tough to figure out this early. Everyone thinks Thomas Davis is a lock to be re-signed but nothing is set in stone. Losing Marshall will hurt too and, of course, Matt Moore is restricted and what about Peppers.

Too many questions now. Should start to clear up the last week of Feb. through early March once a CBA agreement is hashed out or not.

assuming pep and moose stay, then right now:

1st QB: this could be solved with re-signing moore and/or mccown. also need to figure out if either is the real deal or not. moore proved alot this season, but a good backup if he is the guy would still be nice, or a starter is required if he is still just a good/great backup. FA starter or draft a backup to groom if moore is to be the starter (and josh and jake are not brought back). 2 good QBs are not a bad thing to have at a later date (see 1 aaron rodgers). reason this is not lower is the questions entering the year as who is the starter and who are backups. its all still up in the air. this could be solved quickly and quietly via re-signing moore and mccown, and mid to late round draft picks. also there is dealing with the whole delhomme issue as a backup, cut, starter (please no).

2nd DT: up until the last 4 or 5 weeks of the season we struggled to stop the run, and develop any pressure inside. kemo may or may not be the same, and even if he is, we still had issues with him out. something needs to be done to find a fireplug in the middle to help against the run. thomas was a nice stop gap, but his injured past and age arnt a great thing to count on. the others we picked up during the year were nice for the value, but not anything to write home about. the FA market is not great in this area, and the draft is full of DTs at both the NT and UT positions.

3rd WR . there is a plethora of WRs avalible in both the draft and FA. we have DJ who may not be a great #2 or even a good wr when it comes to getting seperation but his hands are good. if a qb gets the ball pretty close, he can be useful. same for moose.

we need help for sure, but imo, a solid qb coupled to the great rushing game are more than enough on offense to compete for a championship, IF we can build a great defense which is easier at this point to achieve than a good passing game. imo the offense needs atleast 2 or 3 more recieving threats to get to a great offense, if we had a good/great qb. the defense is much, much closer to being setup to be special. meeks and co worked wonders against the pass, even when teams stopped being able to run the ball and had to pass the last few weeks. get pressure up the middle and a fireplug to eat multiple blocks and the defense will be close to great with the rest of the defense we currently have.

4th: OLB. 1st anderson i believe is a FA, johnson i am not sure. TD is a FA and coming of an acl injury as a guy that lived off his physical abilities. add in diggs is no spring chicken and the position could have turnover real soon. atleast backups with starting potential are needed at SLB and maybe WLB.

5th CB/S: what to do with marshal. keep or let go when he is a FA. we have 1 high paid CB already, can we afford marshal too? if not a #2 cb or atleast nickle of the future is needed. i am not sold thats martin, who may or may not go back to FS. if he sticks as CB maybe he is the #2 of the future, but depth could be used in the secondary. still unsatisfied with the whole FS situation. martin looked great, but pushed to be a CB, godfrey looks bad still starting. i believe we have a good FS on the team, but will he play there?

6th: returner. could be filled with a WR or CB mentioned above. could be on team as well (might just need a ST coach worth a damn).

7th: inside line depth. i doubt we keep bernadeau forever. as a guy that can play anywhere along the line, he will have value when he becomes a FA. thinking another hangman here. good, but not quite enough to crack our starting lineup, but someone else will sign and start him. same could be said for schwartz in the the future as a RG or RT. would like another LT prospect too, so we can keep wharton at LG if gross goes down again. wharton at LG>>>>LT.

8th: TE. would love a complete TE to play for us. atleast when they are in we would have a guy that could be a bigger threat in the play action calls then king. i like king as a blocker, but his isnt going to get fool you into thinking he is a threat to break on in the passing game.

everything else is for practice 3rd string depth. maybe a kicker for PS for the eventual replacement of kasey, non-drafted though.

what makes you think that??Hard to judge a guy thats not out there much. But I could see us taking a LB in a BPA case.

I think needs are

WR

DT

CB

QB

WR

I think DT is the #1 need. As long as fox is here we run the ball and stop the run. Right now we can't do the latter, our last 3 games were nice but we won't be able to do that consistently, especially against the NFL's best. We need stability at DT. I honestly don't think kemo will be himself after 1 year and he wasn't that great to begin with. Hollis Thomas is a better boulder than he is, but unfortunatley he won't be back either.

Unforutunately we don't have our 1st so we can't satisfy both needs.

Unless WR is shallow and DT is deep I'd rather take a DT.

How about FB? Remember that situation we were in when both Hoover and Fiammetta were out? Had to bring Sutton in to fill that position. I think that is a pressing need.

Yes but Sutton did a great job at FB in the Atlanta game, and three FB's I think we have bigger problems, Hoover looked like a rookie again those last three games running over people, it was great. I think we need to address the WR, and DT two biggest things, I'm very happy with Moore and the helm next year with double trouble at his side.

QB, WR, then everything else.

I'm not ready to proclaim Moore the QB for the next decade, would like something else in the works.

Also we need to resolve the two placekicker situation. We no longer have the Crossman liability so we should be able to be like normal teams and have one kicker and one punter. We need that roster spot back.

WR - WE HAVE TO HAVE SOME HELP ON THE OUTSIDE. We need another WR with Good hands that can stretch the Defense. We don't need a project we need a solid WR that can start NOW!!!!! Either a Free Agent or Shipley.

After that pretty much the best player available. Every position after that has some quality there Including DT. With Kemo coming back and Tank Johnson I think we are set DT too.

You could argue just about every position except TE and RB.

If I had to choose for the 3rd round it would be QB, but I think we would be wasting a pick because he will be stuck behind Moore. Kind of a high pick to be sitting the bench.

Go Panthers
