Steve Smith a sure lock for the HOF

One of the biggest factors for HoF is "Did he change the game when he played?"

And I believe the answer to this (so far) is yes.

Until the 2003 playoff game against the Rams, Smith was pretty much unknown outside of the NFC South, but thanks to Clown X, the league woke up and took notice. Even though Moose made the bigger impact in the Super Bowl that year, everyone started looking at the smaller receivers differently.

And what a poster child he became. Beating double and triple coverage, winning the receiving triple crown, and breaking an entire team's worth of tackles on one play (that was amazing in the game against the Houston Texans), not to mention his innovative and entertaining touchdown celebrations. Smith became a fixture of the highlight shows. And don't get me started on toughness... the broken arm catch that finished this season for him ought to go down in NFL legend.

Sadly, if he doesn't make it, I think you might be able to trace it back to the NFL becoming the No Fun League when it came to after touchdown celebrations. Those celebrations got him national exposure and people got to see not just the antics, but the acrobatics that got him into the endzone in the first place.

And we have to ask, if it wasn't for Smith breaking the trail, would Wes Welker, Santana Moss and the other Steve Smith have made it to the big time? Or would someone have just relegated them to the league of super shrimps?

Barring an accident, Smitty has some good years still ahead of him. And maybe, just maybe, he'll have a year better than ever before. Just glad he's on our team.

Whose he better than career wise? Chris Carter, Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, Jimmy Smith, Tim Brown, Rod Smith, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens????? Maybe Jimmy Smith

Panthers colored glasses say yes. Reality says he's good but not one of the greatest even in his own timeframe.

he's not competing with people who are already in, he's competing with the wide receivers right now.

unfortunately he will never have high enough numbers, unless he plays for four or five more years, he wins a couple of Super bowls, and Matt Moore turns into a top five QB.

Chris Carter? Weed issue

Jimmy Smith? Coke wasn't it?

Randy Moss? General Asshole

TO? Let me count the ways.

My point was as far as guys with number who DIDN'T START ANY SHITSTORMS on their team, Smitty is right at the top. Smitty def deserves HoF.
