i know most of us are tired of talking about vick and this isnt about bringing him here to carolina.with that said and done.....this is just a shot at pantherdude who in his mind thinks jake delhomme has had a better career than vick will when its all said and done.even at this point jakes had what one pro bowl to vicks what 3 or 4...whos accounted for more touchdown????whos accounted for more ints???? whos won more games.....At one point i would have said jake was more accurate than vick but i def wouldnt state that now. vick the first qb to rush for 1000.jake the first to qb to eat a bucket of bojangles chicken i dont know lol.again this is not about how much u all hate vick or dog fighting just on the football field.

Wow, really? Delhomme definitely has had a way better career than vick. First thing people remember vick for is going to prison for that dog fighting ring. People will remember Jake as the guy who throws alot of picks, but at least he has been pretty good in his years. And why compare pro bowls, everyone knows thats a popularity contest, Vick goes just because of his image.

The Hall of Fame cares a lot more about Super Bowls than Pro Bowls.

That said, neither guy has had a Hall of Fame worthy career.

(if you actually think Vick has had anything even close to an HOF career, then your credibility is pretty much laughable)

i never said hes had even close to a HOF career. but if u dont have superbowl wins, pro bowls do look good on ur resume....cant hurt to have them.

before he went to jail, vick had the potential to change the QB position into something crazy and make people question whether or not he deserved to be in the HOF based on passing AND running stats combined. I mean he rushed for over 1000 yards in a season and he's a QB, that's pretty damn special.

i think that had he kept his nose clean, Ron Mexico had a shot at being considered, but now, not a chance. Jake probably isn't done yet in my honest opinion. I think his time on the bench to get his poo striaght will be good for him. his career probably isn't over, it's just put on hold.

You want stats? Actual numbers can be easily pulled from NFL.com and Pro Football Reference. As far as total games, Delhomme has both played more (97 to 86) and started more (79 to 67) but for comparison's sake we can check averages.

Here's the pertinent info:

ATTEMPTS, COMPLETIONS, PCT

Delhomme: 2755-1630 (59.2%)

Vick: 1743- 936 (53.7%)

Completion rate is the stat most commonly used to measure accuracy. Delhomme is higher. And yes, that includes this season's stats (all categories do).

TOTAL YARDS, YARDS PER GAME, YARDS PER ATTEMPT

Delhomme: 19892, 205.1, 7.2

Vick: 11591, 134.8, 6.7

More yards overall due to more games started, but also averaging more per game and per play.

TOUCHDOWNS (PASSING, RUSHING, PASS %

Delhomme: 123, 7, 4.5%

Vick: 72, 23, 4.1%

Here's where someone would look just at the gap between passing TDs and say "throw in Vick's rushing TDs". I have, along with Delhomme's. If you average TDs per game rather than attempt (so that you can factor in rushing TDs) Delhomme has 1.34 TDs per game, Vick has 1.10. Significant difference? No, but Delhomme is higher again.

INTERCEPTIONS, INTERCEPTION %

Delhomme: 94 (3.4%)

Vick: 52 (3%)

Jake has a lot more picks in total, but also way more pass attempts. When you do it as a percentage of their throws, Jake still has more, but by less than half of one percent. Again, despite more pass attempts, they're also about even in fumbles (Delhomme 56, Vick 58) but Delhomme has recovered more of his (16 to 9). As mentioned above, this does factor in this year's stats, a year when Delhomme played several games and Vick did spot duty.

SACKS, SACK YARDS

Delhomme: 160, 1200

Vick: 187, 1153

Despite playing in more games and attempting 1000 more passes, Delhomme has actually been sacked less and for fewer yards than Vick.

(for the record, mobile quarterbacks generally get sacked more than pocket passers, but everyone thinks it's the other way around)

QB RATING, RECORD, WINNING %

Delhomme: 82.1, 50-31-0 (61.7%)

Vick: 75.9, 38-28-1, (56.7%)

Again, someone will likely suggest it's unfair to compare passer rating with Vick (dumb argument, but someone will say it) so you can add in winning percentage as an additional comparison. Move it to the playoffs, and you find Delhomme has more games (9-4) more wins (5 to 2) and a better record (5-3, 63% to 2-2, 50%).

So as far as who's had the better overall career, if you go by the objective numbers, surprise, it's actually Delhomme. If you want to suggest it's Vick, the numbers are against you. You'd have to come up with some kind of goofball "stats don't matter" argument, which essentially means you have nothing to base it on but you want to believe it anyway.

(good luck with that) :sosp:

Of course, you could always suggest that all these stats are racist, but we all know that only a true loser would resort to playing the race card when he's on the wrong end of an argument, right? :D

Actually, not really :nonod:

A lot of people talk about running QBs "changing the game" but it hasn't even come close to happening. These days, all of the best quarterbacks in the league are still pocket passers (more so now than ever) and no run-first QB has ever won a Super Bowl. At this point, I'm pretty sure none has even played in one.

Add in that a good number of teams had Vick figured out. Essentially, rush him hard and assign an athletic linebacker or safety to spy and you pretty much owned him. Kiffin at Tampa also always mush rushed him and forced him to run right, nullifying his ability to throw since Vick could never throw well from that side.

In the end, Vick came up with a lot of nice Sportscenter highlights, but as far as "changing the game"? Not even close. He'd have to have been a lot more successful as a starter for that to stick.

    • You and I both know there isn't a coach we could or can still hire that can "fix" Bryce Young. Even at mighty Alabama with one of the best modern coaches in college football history Mac Jones was still a better QB than Bryce Young. Mac Jones.... We already know how you feel about Canales on a personal level so in that regard you wanting him fired is not news. You don't have to disguise it behind this shroud of rabble about not fixing Bryce Young. To his credit he somehow had us competive against the Chiefs and the Eagles on the road with #9. But no coaching staff can overcome their starting QB turning the ball over 4 times. We definitely have developed some of our younger offensive pieces. And as far as Evero goes he has earned criticism and if he's fired so be it but in his defense many of us said in the offseason this defensive roster was a disaster waiting to happen given the resources we spent on the offense while neglecting the defense. That was Dan Morgan's plan. He swung too hard toward offense to salvage the Bryce Young trade. That's on him. We can scream about XL all we want but at least he's actually been on the field for the most part. The Brooks pick was a luxury pick at the time and now it is a Hurney level blunder. Dan Morgan has gotten a lot of early praise here when in reality he's unequivocally deserving of significant criticism. But if you say that some people get up in arms because he's a former Panther. Big whoop. He has just as much to prove this upcoming season as Canales. That's why to me in my own personal opinion I say one more season and then if it's more of the same say goodbye to both.
    • It's a decent vid with compelling reasons for his opinion. But, my thing is is that you simply can't draft McMillan thinking he is a surefire WR1. There are questions. His 40---rightly or wrongly---will play a part. I'd think that his splits (which will speak more to his game translating to the pros in my mind) are more important.  As much as you're trying to sell us that McMillan is a don't-overthink-it-type-of-player, I wouldn't say that's the case. Workouts will play a part in all of this.  At this point, I like the thought of Tetairoa. That's as much as I can give you right now.
