Random thoughts of Common Sense

I think we need to back off the Big Cat a little bit. This franchise is close to being good on a consistent perennial type of level. I think that it's a good sign that as fans we're emotional about our team, however patience is a virtue and it's good to keep a proper perspective on how good an owner JR actually is, especially when you take a comparative glance at previous expansion franchises.

As far as Fox goes, he's learned his lesson. He's been a good coach for us and he's given us an identity, and truthfully the only thing that was holding us back was the qb position. I've heard radio stations that have said that Delhomme will still have an opportunity to compete for the starting job next year. That's bs. Matt Moore saved Fox's job, I'm sure Fox now is feeling a bit loyal towards Moore. When Panthers.com starts interviewing him and not mentioning Jake you know Jake is done.

Marty Hurney is starting to perform questionably however. I remember listening to his interview earlier this year on WFNZ and I thought his logic was a bit off especially when it came how he arrived at the figures of Delhomme's extension. He basically said that based on his performance during Jake's last contract and how it compared to other qbs around the league decided the amount he was paid, 20mil . My point, new contracts need to be based on current evaluation. What Jake played for on his last contract is what he played for on his last contract.

Overall though I feel that despite the hiccups our beloved Panthers will bounce back strong. Let's be patient with them and not hope for change for changes sake. Let's be smart and build our franchise upon the rock.

Concerning Richardson:

One thing I believe to be true and most people will prolly disagree...but maybe JR is difficult to work with. Of course I'm just speculating, but from my perspective, he has an extremely conservative approach to business which can be nice at times but can also hurt us. The constantly referenced Polian saga has much to do with his behind the scenes activity from my view. I just feel he may be much more hands on than people are led to believe. Don't get me wrong, I think JR is great and brought the NFL to Charlotte, but I think he needs to explore change in the attitude of our organization...not necessarily the people. We need to develop our own identity and attitude rather than emulating a current franchise imo.

If this seems scattered...basically: I think the Richardsons should take risks just a little more and have a more aggressive marketing mentality.

Feel free to completely disagree with me, but thats where I'm at with the big cat.

When we have back to back winning seasons, then we can back off. Until then, I don't feel were a success. I may have high standards, but oh well. I'd rather be an Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, or New England...not a Detroit or Cleveland. I want a contender every year, not every other year.

If you're a contender even only every three years, you still haven't dropped to the level of Cleveland and Detroit.

People are just tired of the same hoopla every single offseason about how next year it's "super bowl or bust" kind of..

It feels that way anyways. Then it ends up being disappointing and there are excuses made, and the same label then gets put on the following year.

Every team has injuries. No team has a major talent advantage over another. It comes down to coaching. Coaching is hard in the NFL. Incredibly so, because that's the biggest understatement ever. Is John Fox a bad one? No. But he's not going to win a Super Bowl here unless he has the luckiest season ever.

And even then, we lost by a FG to the Patriots.. so I just don't see it happening. But money is money, and Fox will be here in 2010 more than likely.

So really it's like just shut up and deal with and hope that Fox has one of his lucky seasons and we get a Lombardi in the Carolinas. I don't see it happening, but who knows? I didn't exactly see 2003 coming either.

When running a business the bottom line cannot be ignored. JR has done very well making the Panthers a successful business. Now that he has done that maybe he can concentrate on making them consistent winners. Playing Jake next year will hurt his bottom line and he is to smart to allow that to happen. (I hope)

You wanna talk about common sense, and then you go on to praise Fox?

Lmao.. common sense would have been to bench Jake way before week 11 John Fox shown no common sense in making that decision, common sense would have been to fire Danny Crossman ions ago, John Fox has shown little common sense in that department, John Fox is an ok coach but I would argue if he had a little more common sense and a little less blind loyalty he could be a really great coach.

    • I think it will be hard to not go edge in the second if we go QB first. Say you have Starks, one of Bond/Egbuka, and maybe one Edge (don't have a name to throw out that is end of 1st round projected and may slide)... do you still go Starks? Just curious. I haven't looked into starks much, as I've been focused on QB, WR, and DL prospects.
