How Good is Hurney?????

I could have sworn the reason was that Fox is a dumbass and doesn't know sh*t about picking quarterbacks.

Am I wrong?

I don't know about that. I'm sure Fox had a lot to do with Matt Moore coming here. He just hasn't drafted any high round QB's, and very few low round QB's work out for any team. Heck, very few high round QB's actually turn out to be great starters.

Nobody was complaining last season when we went 12-5 using the same personnel. I don't see how Hurney f**ked up just because this season didn't go as expected. Jake Delhomme completely broke before, during, and after the Arizona game, and Fox's decision to keep him as starter is what cost us this season.

oF COURSE no one complained about last season, but after the disaster of 2004 it was retarded for him to tow the "20 of 22" returning.

If your not improving your team your going backwards, and Hurney has done that twice in his tenure.

Thats not good enough.

He HAS to learn from his mistakes and give this team the players it needs to be successful..

looking at no back to back winning seasons, i would say he has not done that.

I don't mean picking quarterbacks like in the draft. I mean picking the right QB on the roster. :)

I think Hurney has done a pretty decent job. The thing I notice every year is we have great talent at almost every position except for maybe 1 or 2. The truth is to be a great team, you have to get lucky, either in the draft or through free agency. Obviously if Jarrett panned out and Jake Delhomme lived up to his contract, we'd easily be an elite team. I mean just look at our RB's, our offensive line, our LB's, our secondary is much improved with Meeks leadership. Overall, Hurney and Fox have done a tremendous job keeping our team competitive each year. Sometimes you just need other things to pan out as you hoped, but with the promise of Matt Moore, I think we're one WR and defensive end (assuming Peppers leaves) from being that elite team. And given that we're pretty young at the majority of our positions, I can see us being competitive for years to come.

I'm not talking about 2004. I'm talking about just last season...

He's put together a great squad, and so far, we haven't been able to capitalize. How come everybody says all the talent we need is there, it's the coaching that's f**king us up, but then go on to say that Hurney should be fired along with Fox? Makes no sense. That talent isn't on the team by accident. Hurney found and signed these players. What? No credit?

We have a great team NOW <---, but questionable coaching decisions and poo QB play have stopped us from being successful. Sorry, but I don't think this season can be blamed on Hurney.

Well looking at his "body of work", i dont consider him a success in his job..

He has kept us afloat, but considering KEMO was our last real "move" to improve this team outside of the draft (not counting Meshawn- 40 yr old WR), that says a lot about his mindset.

Why ignore the draft? Do you honestly believe that Hurney doesn't have a say on the decisions made there?

He's brought a lot of talent in, he's made sure to keep talent, and if we are in a position to find talent (FA), he finds it. I don't understand why you aren't giving him credit for building a great team just because our starting QB poo the bed this season and our HC took too long to notice.

Yeah, he left Delhomme in there too long, but I can actually understand him wanting to give a guy a chance to turn it around, especially since Delhomme still had most of the offensive players on his side and that Moore was still a bit of an unknown quantity. Belichick was the same way. He didn't bench Bledsoe because of performance either...he benched him when he got hurt, because he didn't really know how good Tom Brady was going to be. These decisions are always a lot easier when you have the benefit of hindsight though.

everyone read! this doesn't make any sense to me. Hurney has been a quality GM, IMO...

Edit: not to say he is perfect, there are valid points on where he could improve.

There is a lot more to a draft than Hurney just picking guys- its not just him..

However its his job to go out in FA and bring in talent to improve our team.

This is the area that he SUCKS in...

Just sayin...

We kinda don't have the cap room to be signing FAs left and right. I'm sorry if that's what you wanted. Although that too could be blamed on Hurney, I would defend him by saying that he did what he had to do to insure that the talent on this team remained on this team. You can't knock him for trying to keep a good team together. You can bring up the Delhomme contract f**k-up all you want, but a lot of people f**ked up on that one.
