Peppers was 10x times better than Burns.. and we let him go!! Peppers wanted to stay but they refused to pay him!! seems obvious panthers holding on him for trade bait at this point!! I like Burns I think it would be a mistake to let him go!!! We need to keep him and make zero trades!! Ride this year out!! Try schemes give Thomas OC duties and rebuild next few years

Paying burns top 5 pass rusher $ is a mistake and will hurt the franchise in the long run. So that’s exactly what fitt will do

It would be expensive, but it would be for a top 5-10 edge for 3-5 years of his prime on the next deal.

Wouldn’t it also hurt the franchise in the “long run” to not have that edge?

Both sides of the argument have their merits.

However…if Bryce is worth a damn, then Burns contract is inconsequential since we won’t have an expensive QB deal to care about.

That’s why I think people are caring a bit too much about his potential annual salary.

Could have sworn Peppers wanted to leave. He lived in NC his whole life and wanted to experience a different place.

Burns is leading the team in sacks, forced fumbles, TFLs, QB hits, and pressures all while facing more double teams.

What's he supposed to do? Play offense too? Pay the man before folks are crying about him balling out somewhere else!

The same crowd that wants to ship off Burns for a receiver and pick is the generally the same crowd that had DJ Moore slated as a number two receiver.

It worked out him he got on hood teams.. had to correct this cuz I thought he did get a ring… I was wrong.. still a good dude!!

Burns isn’t an every down player. You can’t pay a situational pass rusher that kind of money when there are holes at pretty much every position on offense. Not to mention I’d hate to see how invisible Spiderman becomes when he gets paid and starts to coast

Yea he wanted to leave,  he had to leave mentally for his sake.

He publicly announced he wanted to play somewhere else.

I've been pro-Burns but you can't deny his disappearances. It's looking like we should have figured out a way to keep DJ and trade him. Moore and Brown should have been the only two off limits if we were making a move for a franchise QB.

If you looked at DJ he “disappeared” sometimes as well.

I respectfully disagree with everything you said.

I think we're going to hang on to Brian and place the franchise tag on him, possibly trade him in the offseason, not in-season

I very much could see this being what happens if the team's record is as abysmal as fans are fearing. Would be the smartest move also, imo.

    • I'm with you.  Even an extra 3rd would help.  None of the players you listed are elite though.  Sadly there are very few of those in this draft, but there are a lot of good players in the late first and into the second. We need to realize that we can't get all our needs in this year's draft.  We know we need some sort of edge, a safety, and I feel we need to use one of first 4 picks on a CB, preferably 3rd at latest.  And I want to draft an OT in 3rd to learn behind Moton this year. The extra 2nd would be huge.  2 things Bear Hands has noted in other threads, we can get a rusher in the mid rounds of the first, and if a good LT is available at our pick we should be able to get a deal. I'm ok.  If the media takes are close, trading back to around 15 should get us a second, and since our second is near the end of that round, getting one earlier opens up a whole lot of opportunities.  Either way, Canales builds his infrastructure with this draft.  Next year, with all our picks and probably picking somewhere between 10 and 15, we can get real stars.   All of this depends on hitting on picks this year.
    • You got the gist of his main issue. He plays LB or whatever on D, but hates to tackle and contact. That's the summary.  I normally have a wide margin of " Hey vet min/bring him for try out/maybe he changed/etc etc". But he can not be trusted, * but he did just have his "best" season. He's like those RB that refuse to run between the tackles, bounce everything outside...they too are scared of contact. That's like the whole point of NFL, he's able to trick and athlete his way for 5 years, props to him and his agent.  Me personally I view him like virus, I wouldn't want him on film shying away from hitting while the rookies&UDFA are looking for how the Panthers do things. Plus Im the biggest sucker there is about giving former 1st, 2nd, etc another chances. Just not someone who doesn't want to play NFL and fools those with his god given gifts.  ____________________________________________________________   \ Not to add another layer to this, but I feel contact and hitting its the biggest problem for the NFL. I sorta agree with TEs, WRs, and RBs either going out of bounds or falling to the ground to avoid a solid hit(this goes out the window for 1st downs, SB, etc.) Like if a WR caught a deep slant and already gained 17 yards, but here comes a safety with a great angle, Im all for that WR to fall on the ground...... ugh...... But I think the opposite for my defense. I feel this topic is central sun hot and NFL has done a great job in avoiding it. Im surprised NFL is still allowed, I have huge doubts in the future.
    • not sure if carolina picks a WR in this draft, they have some young WR already and will let them develop. Need another vet imo.  I think carolina is going to pass more to the RB's this coming season, look for them to move heaven and earth for Cam Skatteboo.  I really hope they go TE Warren in the 1st. That would add another dynamic to this offense.
