Clokey, the whimsical clay figure Gumby’s creator died on Friday in his sleep at his home in Los Osos, California. Art Clokey 88, had repeated bladder infections and had been battling it since quite a long time.

Clokey and his wife Ruth, invented Gumby in the early 1950s. After a successful debut of The Howdy Doody Show, Gumby became the star of its own hit television show, The Adventures of Gumby, which was the first to use clay animation on television.

Gumby is today recognized as cultural icon all around the globe and has more then 134000 fans on Facebook.
