If we don't take a WR with our first pick..

DT is very shallow this year. But, I don't think DT is our greatest need because we have already traded a 6th rounder to the chiefs for Tank Tyler, also got Leonard via waivers.. not to mention Kemo will be back.

Most people have been saying its a deep class of DT.But We traded for Tyler and Leonard.5th and 6th rounders.

All of the depth is at the top of the draft (out of our reach).. so after the 1st round.. DT is not deep at all. There will be 5 DTs taken before we pick in the 2nd round.

1. Suh (Nebraska)

2. McCoy (Oklahoma)

3. Dan Williams (Tenn)

4. Cody (Bama')

5. Odrick (Penn St)

There will be one other 2nd round DT, Lamarr Houston from Texas.

No one knows where any of these guys will be drafted or how many of any position will be drafted in what round. When has the draft EVER went as expected? We should sign a WR and D-lineman in FA and just draft the best player available.

Actually, they ought to draft a TE with the first pick, just to piss every Mel Kiper off.

I honestly don't know if he will. We did suffer without him, but he's not really the greatest nose tackle. He solid at the point of attack but doesn't really get much penetration and definatley no pass rush. Old guys like Ted Washington(when he was playing), Pat Williams, and even Hollis Thomas have looked better than he has. If your going to be one demensional your strengths need to be all that more special, and his aren't.

You add in the fact the he doesn't fit in Meek's system and he's coming off of an injury that big men are spotty on. It might be best to let him go or work out an injury settlement.

I'd like to think we'd make the cold blooded decision but it's not like our FO to make the tough choices.

I say if there's no salary cap we should absorb the penalty and let him go.

My point is this.. If WR is our biggest need, we can not afford to gamble on the pick as the success rate is poor. We need to address it in the 2nd round, and I think I have made my point very clear. Obviously, there are good WRs to be had in the later rounds, but the success rate is less than 5% in rounds 4-7.. and it is just wishful thinking to say we are going to find a starter later in the draft at the WR position.

I have Starting caliber WRs in Bold. 5/35 WRs fall into the "starter" category, which is a 14% success rate. I don't feel you can look past 3 years to get a good feel on if a WR is starter caliber or not.. that's why I did not include 08-09 drafts.

I love it when people back their opinions up with stats. WR with our first pick IMO is a must if there is good value there. If not...then Matt Moore is going to get BURIED next year unless we retain Moose.

If we could swing signing one of the FAs out there then I'd be all for that since maybe we have a QB who would look at someone other than his #1 option.

If we draft a TE in the 2nd with Barnidge and Rosario still on the roster I will burn the city of Charlotte to the ground.

I will help. That would be ridonkulous.

I say it will be Brian Price DT or a WR.

price is likely off the board round 1, or early round 2 at the very latest. he is getting billed right now as the #3 DT in the draft, and rightfully so. after price it gets intresting as there aere atleast 6 other dts worth a look early on in the draft.

in no particular order:

cody

williams

houston

alualu

odrick

jones

i can see them all going in the 2-4th range depending on workouts and other teams needs. there are 2 3-4 style NT in this group (who could move up like brace did last year), and a bunch of 4-3 UTs.

I highly doubt we draft a DT early on, or even at all...

With Kemo coming back, we currently have Lewis, two guys we traded picks for (Tyler and Leonard), and 2 others we have invested past draft picks in (Hayden and Brayton)...

It could happen that DT is one of the positions we will be willing to trade a future pick to move into the first and get, but it would be the later first/early second much like Everette Brown last year...

I doubt it happens though, and we'll likely stick to what we've got...

Who will be looking for a WR before we draft?

Bears, Jets, Ravens...who else has WR as a top need? No way we get Tate IMO, maybe hope to get Shipley in 3rd and try to sign a proven veteren WR instead?

The Bears have HUGE offensive line problems. They might want to try and protect Jay Cutler before they go after a WR. The only WR they take over an OT IMO is Dez Bryant which wouldn't matter for us since we have no chance at him.

The Jets paid big money for Braylon Edwards but don't really need a lot at other positions so I could see them going after a WR or maybe a guy like Jermaine Gresham so that Sanchez can have a big target over the middle.

The Ravens undoubtedly will go after a WR since that is essentially the only thing holding their offense back from being one of the best in the league.

It is all going to come down to the combine and what teams want. Tate is not a big receiver (not even as big as Desean Jackson IDT) so it will depend on if teams think he can be a #1. I think Tate can be a great #2 receiver and maybe evolve into a #1 but teams don't typically take #2 receivers in the first round unless that is their only real need.

Browns, Bengals, Ravens are the big 3 off the top of my head that could take WR in the 1st round.. I haven't quite looked at the 2nd round yet, but I believe there is 1 team ahead of us in the 2nd that will take a WR as well.. maybe 2. Leaving us with the 5th-6th WR on the board.

um dustin keller > gresham. jets dont need another TE that early.

as for tate, look at harvin, is percy really a #1 WR not really, but he is always a threat on the field like tate. tate may not be a #1 WR (i think he can be, percy could on another team possibly), but what he can do in the slot, out of the backfield, in the return game, as well as a WR is why he absolutely is worth a 1st. just like harvin last year. neither guy really is about the long speed (aka 40 time), but more about the acceleration and cuts they can make. idk if tate is as good as percy, but i would love to have him here.

then again i like mccluster for the same reasons i like harvin and tate, and he will come at a much lower price than either. now i doubt he is as stout as either, but he is dynamic with the ball in his hands.
