"Even so, on Saturday Carroll personally called John Wooten, chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, the organization designed to ensure that teams abide by the Rooney Rule, to assure him that he had no deal with Seattle.

"He said, 'I wouldn't try to be disruptive to what you're trying to do, and I support what you're trying to do,' " Wooten said Saturday night. "He said, 'I feel comfortable at USC, and if the deal isn't what I want it to be, I'll just stay right here at Southern Cal. But I need to talk to Seattle to clear up any issues.' He said he never would get into any arrangement that would cause controversy or undermine the Fritz Pollard Alliance. As long as I've known Pete Carroll over the years, he's been honest. I take him at his word.""

interesting to say the least, not really sure why Carroll would say he would stay at Southern Cal if he didn't think there was a possibility that it would happen. Carroll has always been an all or nothing kind of guy I'm skeptical about this deal getting finalized unless the Hawks can work in language on the contract that gives him more power with personnel without giving him the GM or President title. The other aspect of it is that according to many sources in LA Carroll is anything but "comftorable" at SC, there has been a growing rift between AD Mike Garrett and Pete Carroll and the treatment of running back Joe McKnight and his suspension for the Emerald Bowl really upset Carroll. Also Carroll was pretty critical of Garrett when he placed self imposed sanctions on the mens basketball team suspending them from post season play. Either way things could get interesting tomorrow.....

Alex Gibbs going to the seahawks with him.

Gibbs, the godfather of zone blocking in the NFL, has long been known as one of the premier offensive line coaches in the league. He's enjoyed success in Denver, Atlanta, and Houston. His contract with the Texans ran out at the end of the season

The fact that he didn't get the GM title along with the HC spot makes me think that the hammer is about to get dropped on USC. Pete was offered GM & HC opportunities in the past and turned them down. Now all it takes is a HC job and he's gone?

He got a boatload of money and the way the contract is written he's got plenty of power over personnel, plus its on the west coast something the other offers never were.....
