The 37-year-old victim was dressed as Star Wars character Obi-Wan Kenobi as he walked along Queen's Road, Hyde Park, between 1.30am and 2am on New Year's Day.

As he walked past the Harolds area, he was attacked from behind by four Asian youths who stole the lightsaber, which was a Master Replica FX costing more than £100.

He suffered a broken rib and serious bruising to his back.

The distinctive collectors item, which is a long illuminated tube with a handle which makes sound effects, is normally only available online or from specialist shops.

This kind of thing wouldn't happen anymore if the UK would let people carry around real lightsabers.
