This stat tells it all

Again you are out in left field apparently looking into the sun . I just showed you that in the last decade that 4 teams with top 5 defenses won the superbowl. And you come back with the Ravens and Tampa were exceptions to the rule???? What rule???? Let me repeat it. Only 1, that right 1 team with a top 5 passing attack has won the super bowl this decade.

And what was that other nonsense with quarterbacks. You missed the point again. As I have told you all thread long it isn't whether you have a good quarterback all season long it is how they play in the playoffs. Again look as recently as last year. Roethlisberger all season long had a quarterback rating in the low 80s. His defense carried him along. In the playoffs he get hotter and they win. Same thing happened with Eli Manning the year before. In fact you would expect that in 2006 that an elite quarterback like Peyton Manning would prove your theory that an elite quarterback would be the ticket. And in his case he was 30 points lower in passer rating in the post season than the regular season? What saved him? A hot running game and a defense that played well over their heads. Same thing in 2005 when Roethlisberger had a crappy superbowl after a very good regular season and first few games of the postseason.

You seem to be burying yourself here. With each example you just keep proving my point. You don't need an elite quarterback to win the superbowl. Just a guy who plays like one when he needs to in the playoffs. And if he struggles then a good running attack and defense will save the day.

I completely get what your saying, and if your argument is valid, how come we haven't seen more mediocre or avg QB's win the superbowl. That's all I'm saying. Me listing all those QB's is just to prove to you that AVG QB's in the NFL don't win the championships, no matter how hot their team is in the playoffs. I consider Ben Roethlisburger a top tier QB, and maybe that's where our arguments differ.

This is just going to go back and forth so I guess we'll just wait and see who wins the superbowl to settle this. So according to you, its whatever team clicks on all cylinders in the playoffs, running the ball, defense, etc.

So lets look at the hottest teams entering the playoffs and clicking on all cylinders and if any of those teams win it all, then I'll concede my argument and agree with you. Those teams are the Cowboys, Chargers, and Packers. And according to you, a team that catches fire in the playoffs with an avg QB, those teams are the Jets, Bengals, Ravens, and Eagles.

Now I can already guarantee you that the Jets, Bengals, Ravens, and Eagles have no shot at a superbowl, no matter how hot their team gets. If I'm wrong, you can bump this thread and I'll change my avatar to whatever you choose.

The Cowboys, Chargers, and Packers are the hottest teams, but they also have extremely good, but not elite QB's. If one of those teams wins it all, I think we're kind of in the middle.

I'm saying the Pats, Cardinals, Colts, Vikings, or Saints will likely win it all. Brady, Warner, Favre, Manning and Brees are what I would consider elite QB's. So we'll see how everything pans out.

Didn't the Colts get there with their defense last time?

The hottest teams coming INTO the playoffs aren't necessarily the ones to pick. It's the hottest teams IN the playoffs. So we'll see who is going to the Superbowl on Saturday or Sunday.

We not only have seen mediocre quarterbacks win the super bowl but we have seen elite quarterbacks have mediocre performances and still win. We have seen quarterbacks like Delhomme outplay a brady in 2003 and still lose. We have seen quarterbacks go all year with a 70 rating like Eli Manning then get hot in the playoffs and now based on winning the superbowl, he obtains elite status by some. As for who will win this year, I don't know but I don't think it will be any of the four you favor. But that is why they play the game.

The Saints are also in my list. So the Colts, Vikings, Saints, Cardinals, and Pats. We'll see what happens.

good stat, but according to Panthers55, that's not adequate enough.

Not true at all don't put words in my mouth. Also add that 8 of the top 10 defenses (fewest points allowed) are in the playoffs. My point is that passing yards alone is just one piece of the puzzle.

And yeah, we have seen elite QB's have mediocre performances in the playoffs and still win. That's b/c they get it done when it counts the most. For example since you use Roethlisburger so much, lets use him. The Steelers are never superbowl champions if it wasn't for Ben leading that game winning drive at the end. Great defenses and great running attacks will definitely keep you in the game, but at some point, you have to put the ball in your QB's hand to lead you to victory, and that's where elite QB's get it done, and mediocre QB's don't.

Ben is a god in the playoffs when it really counts.
