Fox waiting on the Cleveland job (possible).

One thing is a given, this is going to be a really fun off-season until the dust settles. The one good thing out of all of this is it may make the off-season go by a lot faster.

What we know is nothing. What we can speculate is alot. Big thing today is the Holmgren / Mangini meeting. That will be the starting point of the dominos falling.

Agreed! I was reading all the other threads and was thinking. We all know nothing until Cleveland gets it's cards on the table. The Cleveland HC deal is tied to alot of teams right now. Seahawks, Eagles, Bills and Carolina. The Cleveland moves will make it more clear for all the league not just the Panthers.

After reading the thread yesterday, I noticed three things about people who wanted Fox to stay.

1.) They fear a new coach will dismantle this team (mainly Cowher) and fire our coordinators/let players go

2.) They only remember the last 4 or 5 games...and not the whole season. Also, they believe Fox will change

3.) Due to Fox's track record, he is due a winning season.

If this is the best excuses people can come up, then we need to kick Fox's ass out if we can. People need to take the whole season into account...not the last quarter of the season. Do you REALLY believe we can win a Super Bowl with Fox as coach. I mean REALLY?!

Say what you will about Fox not pulling the trigger at QB. That is fair game as it is his job to make those decisions as head coach. But I can say for myself that Jake cost use 3-5 games last year. Had we a QB without the financial baggage, we may have made the move sooner. I have said it before, and I'll say it again.... this team is a QB away from being a SB powerhouse contender. John Fox and Marty Hurney have EVERYTHING to do with making that happen.

If people want to be short-sighted and hire another Seifert, then we are setting ourselves up to relive a much maligned history. I have no desire to return to those days.

I couldn't agree more.

First off Fox has done wonders for the Panthers this no one can argue. Having said that Fox's long tenure has allowed us to know the real Fox. He is old school, conservative, run first, stubborn to change, predictable, wants to win with defense, plays not to lose, loyal to players and AC, and thinks "Jake is our best chance to win".

Some very sound traits, some not working so well.

A win is a win but Fox has won a lot of games at the end of a lost season

when changing a few things earlier on might have made a difference.

The problem as I see it is he will always be this way and I don't see us getting off of this rollercoaster trend of good season/disappointing season. Some readers here are old enough to remember the Panthers when they sucked. I remember and Fox is a breath of fresh air to that era but for me I want to go the the next lever now and I just don't think Fox will get us there. Our SB run was wonderful and Fox got a well deserved extension and made tons of money and built a name for himself but even though he has had the talent to do it again he hasn't been able. Injuries and bad luck have played their part but can't be blamed entirely.

If Fox stays I will support the team the best way I can but if he goes I will

look at the new HC with excitement and renewed hope.

If Fox is making personnel decisions like that, we won't ever make it. And what makes people think that Fox won't start Delhomme next season or suddenly make necessary changes when needed. Fox has said he would have a hard time benching Delhomme and the only reason he wasn't starting was because of injury. He also has a philosophy of starters not losing their jobs to injury.

This is what Delhomme has said recently

Quarterback Jake Delhomme said Monday morning he doesn't expect to be anywhere else but with the Carolina Panthers next season.

"I didn’t get into any of that with coaches today, but I anticipate to be here, I expect to be here, I want to be here," Delhomme said.

"Absolutely, but we’re a two-week business. You’re good for 2 weeks, you’re great; you’re bad for 2 weeks, you’re lower than you-know-what. It certainly hasn’t been good this year, my play. Now why would Delhomme sound so confident and Matt Moore having "no expectations" even though he completely outplayed Delhomme. I mean...a young guy outplayed a vet...other franchises like the Tennessee and San Francisco have already decided to move on and name their young guys as starters for next year.

This is what Hurney had to say.

Panthers G.M. Marty Hurney recently said that quarterback Jake Delhomme continues to fit in the team's plans, despite the fact that Delhomme was placed on injured reserve to cap his worst season by far as a starting quarterback.

"This move doesn't change anything about his future," Hurney told Charles Chandler of the Charlotte Observer. "We feel the same about Jake as we did yesterday before we put him on I.R. We've made it clear we have confidence in Jake."

Now if Hurney(and essentially Fox) still feel the same about Jake as they did when they gave him that ridiculous contract. Don't you think it is leaning towards the fact that Fox plans on starting Jake next year; based on the contract and their belief?
