Foxball 101 to the last. How frustrating.

I know that some of you may not agree, but the second half of the Saints' thrashing is the epitome of why Fox leaves a little too much to be desired. Fox should have cancelled classes for Foxball 101 in the last game IMHO.

Don't get me wrong, under normal circumstances I probably wouldn't be complaining, but I thought that this last game was the perfect opportunity to see if Matt Moore was the guy for 2010. As opposed to seeing what Moore could do, he runs Hoover on third and long. WTF? Let the guy throw the damned ball. It's not like we were playing to make the post-season, and if Brees had been playing, then that ultra-conservative approach would have undoubtedly bitten us in the fleshy part of our posterior. And, in my opinion, it did bite us in the first match-up with the Saints this year.

Like I said, it would have been different if there were no questions regarding our QB status, but I really wanted to see Moore (as well as Jarrett and Kenneth Moore, and Rosairo and Barnidge for that matter) have more of of an opportunity to prove that they could make a blue chip showing of themselves.

I said it in chat, that it was almost like he was holding MM back, as not to look good. Cuz I'm sure that even though they say they don't vist the MBs or pay any attention to what the fans are saying. It got back to them that we are falling for MM. But as soon as I said that, they started calling more passing plays and moving the ball through the air. But I agree, they should have been going all out with passing to see what we have in Moore, Jarrett, Moore and the TEs. But whatever... Foxball is very frustrating for fans and I have gotten used to it and so should everybody else.

Thats crazy. The Saints game wasn't an audition for Moore for 2010, it was a freakin football game to win or lose. Fox did what any reasonable coach would do in a very cold winter game. He ran the clock and sealed the win. Even the Saints ran the ball much of the second half. Why? because in very cold weather it is hard to throw the ball and even harder to catch it. Hoover was running the ball because Stewart hurt his achilles again.

There will be plenty of time for Moore to show what he's got in training camp next year which is where the job should be won or lost. Whether or not Moore threw the ball well in game 16 of this season will have little bearing on him starting next year unless of course he plays well next year.

It is amazing that instead of being happy for a win given our current season now we are making such idiotic posts suggesting he puposefully held Moore back so he can start Delhomme next year or such crap.

Paranoia will destroy ya!!!!

I agree also, we definately have discussed this in other threads. I would have been booing Fox if I was at the stadium that day. It was nothing but run, run, run, punt for the entire 3rd and 4th QTR with a 13pt lead. I understand the defense was dominate, but come on. John Fox loves to get a lead and do nothing until the other team catches up or takes a lead. That is exactely what he did on Sunday. Even in a game that was meaningless Fox went ultra conservative. Nobody would have cared if Moore got interecepted and the Panthers lost that game.

The thing i hate most about fox is that he is scared to go for the kill. Any time we get a two score lead he consistently runs the ball non stop. Go for the juglar for crying out loud. A perfect example would be the new york giants game last year. I say good ridance to him and jake. Bring in cowher.

Says you. Not me. I was there, it was enjoyable to be winning, to be able to sit back in that cold and enjoy seeing the Saints fans leaving early.

Don't be making, please, what IMO are truly stupid statements. You'd be pissed as hell if we had lost and you know it. :yesnod:

I feel y'all about losing vs winning the game, but there is just something wrong with running on third and long, and it can be construed as not having faith in your QB. Do you think that if we had Brady, Rivers, or either Manning that we would have been running in that situation? I don't think so. If you even half-way believe in your QB, let him throw. If pre-surgery Jake had been in there, even Fox is probably throwing on those downs.

Fox's coaching sometimes puts me in the mind of David Carr's playing: they both apparently have suffered some post traumatic stress from certain situations that causes them to act like a deer caught in headlights, even though the immediate situation is not as dire as they believe it to be.

 I agree running on third & long feels wrong. But in these last games, with Moore throwing well, running on third & long amazingly worked. Go watch the Patriot game again. It worked!

Fox was playing below-freezing football and I know fans in the Carolinas have seldom seen below-freezing football but it is different.

Who knows? Maybe Hoover asked to carry the ball more. "It makes me feel young again, coach!" And maybe they wanted to see more of Goodson than of any of the WR's, because of a concussion he hadn't played much. And maybe Fox trusted his defense and his o-line to not give the Saints a below-freezing football's chance in hell to win the game. :D

Foxball = To hell with winning! Let's just not lose!

Fox could never be a NASCAR driver, because he takes his foot off the pedal too soon!

Uh, no. Can't compare them. Football isn't the 1st across the finish line, it's the team that scores the most in 60 minutes. I don't remember seeing Jimmie Johnson in many crashes either. He trusted his team too.

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
