Keep Fox = $0 due during a work stoppage and most likely a winning playoff season next year.

Get Cowher = $10 million due during a work stoppage and most likely a winning playoff season next year.

A bad as Richardson wants a Ring I think he would pay $10 million to sit.

But it looks like Cowher is the guy Richardson is after most anyway, not Fox. If he has his heart set on Cowher, Cowher it will be. I'm sure they would put some kind of clause in Cowher's contract where he would be owed substantially less during a lockout.

I still don't think a lockout is going to happen personally. I think it's a lot of smoke and mirrors.

So the next step in this process, if it's going to happen, would be the firing of Eric Mangini. That's what we need to look for. When and if that happens, the Fox to Cleveland noise is going to ratchet up to a crescendo if none of the key players deny it. And by "key", I mean everyone involved but Fox. He's going to deny it or give a vague response no matter what his actual intentions might be.

I don't see Cowher having any different result than Fox next year, unless Fox does the unlikely and starts Delhomme.

I dont either but long term I do and I think it all boils down to if Fox wants to be here or not. If he doesnt I do think Cowher would come in. Think everything got moved up by a year because of the poor start but with rumors that Cowher has been building a Coaching staff he has to be going somewhere.

But first things first we have to see if Fox actually does leave.

We will find out tomorrow afternoon on Mangini. That is when Holmgran is having his meeting with him. I actually think if it does go down it will be somewhat quick. Due to the Rooney rule they will have to interview other candidates But I bet they do the bare minimum if they are going to hire Fox.

In the unlikely event this comes to fruition, let's not overvalue Fox as Peppers was last year in regards to possible trade compensation. If the Panthers indeed want him gone, $6,000,000 in savings should be enough. Picks would be icing on the cake.

Why settle for that when your in drivers seat? The Panthers will be happy either way. Pay Fox for one year and have nothing on the books for the lockout season or get pick(s) and money for releasing him.
