Because if would be a long-term contract. He plays here next season and then is out of a job for a lock-out season.

Yea he makes 6 million this year and he is a SB coach. I'm sure he will run out of money and no one will want him......

Mangini was seen leaving the facility at 5:35 ET by Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. A team source tells him that no decisions were made despite a two hour meeting.

Holmgren was seen leaving with his agent Bob LaMonte later in the day. It's expected that Holmgren will hire a LaMonte client if he fires Mangini.

While ESPN's Chris Mortensen has downplayed any chance of John Fox joining the Browns, Grossi presents a different story.

He says that Fox is "very interested" in the possibility and Panthers owner Jerry Richardson would be willing to arrive a contract settlement to let Fox out of his contract.

This should be a very interesting week in Cleveland.

If "coming to an agreement on the contract" means that the Browns have to pay everything then that would be excellent. If "coming to an agreement on the contract" means that they are willing to trade us something of value for him...then thats even better.

Either way I think we are possibly looking at Bill Cowher for 2010 which is a wonderful prospect to think about.

If Fox went to the Browns would we see the Browns make the playoffs soon?

lol

Fox in the AFC North

this isn't the NFC South where there are no perpetual contenders. he will have to try to outmuscle both the Steelers and the Ravens. the Bengals I think he could put up a fight against but i wouldn't expect him to be nearly as successful.

if this happens i will hire some people to drop a wire in Holmgren's office just so i can hear his reaction when Fox proposes they trade for Delhomme.

I'd GIVE them Delhomme for a slap on the butt and a box of peanuts.

Its ego too. He doesn't want to be one of the guys that got canned after making a bunch of terrible personel decisions when he could go to a franchise with ZERO expectations. Think about it...be one of the highest paid coaches in the league with a team where anything you do to help will be savior-esque. OR, stay with the Panthers for one more year and have the fans comparing you to Bill Cowher during every single play-call?

It would be a no-brainer for me even if it is the Browns.

These guys live lifestyles where they don't want to take a paycut going from a HC to a coordinator. That is probably a 80% pay cut. He would easily go from making 6 million dollars next year to making 1.2 million bucks as a coordinator.

I foresee the Ravens having a decline over the next few years. If this is true the Browns may have a chance at competing for a Wildcard if they can start winning at least as much as an average NFL team. Which with Fox I would think they could do.

The question seemed stupid I admit, but that is why I asked.

Just to let you know what other fans think about Fox...

I live in westren PA, the heart of Steeler nation. A friend called me Monday morning and said that Fox had been fired. Turns out the report was wrong but when asked who I thought Fox would coach for next season I said I thought the Browns would end up being where he would get the HC job. The response to that, from a Steelers fan, was that "Oh God I hope not. There goes those easy wins every year."

Take it for what it is but while many of fans think Fox is a horrible coach, most realize he is one of the best in the NFL and that only reason to have Fox leave deals more with a time factor than anything else.

I think most of us panther fans look at giving fox to another team as beneficial to everyone. In my opinion he has taken our organization as far as he possibly can. it's kind of the whole dungy/gruden type of a deal. I think both teams could benefit from the panthers getting rid of fox.

Fox is a good coach. He will take a bad team and turn them around from the laughing stock in the league.

It's not "go to a team that has zero expectations"... it's, "go to a team like Carolina"...

We were 1-15.

He helped us raise the bar.

Unfortunately, for everyone, Fox isn't a great coach.
