The overwhelming opinion in the rumor mills appears to tag John Fox as one of the most attractive POTENTIAL coaching hires of 2010, should he become available.

Equally clear is the fact that the POTENTIAL Carolina head coaching job is among the most attractive in the league, should it become available.

This cements the decision to invite Fox back but without an extension as a stroke of genius......as long as that situation is remedied within the next few weeks. Fox has now tested the waters, if only for a day, and it is clear that he would have many suitors. Enough so that the Panthers can work this to their advantage and wrangle some compensation in the form of draft picks which they so desperately need. Whether we promote from within or Cowher steps in and keeps Davidson/Meeks it is clear (imo) that the Panthers would not suffer and stand a good chance to both improve on the field and in their draft pick bank account.

Make this a win/win Panthers! Shop Fox!!!

I highly doubt Cowher would keep the coordinators in place if he came in, as much as I'd want him to.

The thing is, the Panthers appear to be his dream job. That means we can use that to our advantage.

scenario; Fox gets offer from Cleveland for a 5 year contract that would secure him financially through the potential problems in 2011. Browns want him badly enough to either throw in two picks, Brady (who I don't want) or some combination. Panthers can either move ahead with the confidence of the scenario on the front page (Davidson/Meeks/Skipper) or offer the job to Cowher on the condition that he keep the Coordinators.

Didn't the league write a rule to prevent teams from trading HC, after the Herm Edwards Trade.

That sounds good to me, I'm just not sure Cowher would go for that. Seems like he might want to be able to appoint his own assistants.

Yeah after Gruden was traded from Oakland to Tampa they outlawed the practice. We couldn't trade Fox and we would get nothing for him but perhaps a buyout of the contract from what I have read.

Edwards was Post-gruden, Jets got a 4th for him (how I don't know).
