Peppers, maybe he will stay?

Again, HE'LL BE 25 at the end of his current deal. And if Stewart is playing at a high level when that comes, of course we would re-sign him. But you can't compare Stewart to Peppers as Samuel Jackson was trying to do.

Yes, you can...

Your argument was based on "yada yada yada... love to keep Pep a couple more years... yada yada yada... but then he'll be old and wearing down"...

Similarly... Stewart's style will make him old by RB standards when his contract expires (he'll be 26 when he hits the FA market)... basically saying he'll have a couple good years left in him, but beyond that, who knows?

Running backs with style similar to Stewart's:

Brandon Jacobs

Ricky Williams

Larry Johnson

Michael Turner

LenDale White

Now, if you'll notice the one thing they all have in common... (with the exception of Ricky, because he had a few years pretty much out of football) They were all pretty much washed up at the point in which Stewart will be just after he signs a new contract.. be it here or elsewhere...

Stewart already has trouble with his ankle, and it isn't because of the cuts he makes... It is because of his power style approach and refusal to go down on the first contact...

So yes, it is a very valid comparison... While Pep may only have a couple years left in the tank by your standards, we could very well be in the same situation with Stewart as his contract comes to an end...

If his exterior is any indication, he may be back because on the sidelines he looks like he's having fun. Especially where Matt is concerned. Who knows, maybe the thought of having an offense that won't leave the D hangin' at the 20 yard line has given him some better thoughts on the Panther's future. Will it be good or bad for us? That is the question.

Of course we could be in the same situation, but then we might not be...the point is, WHO FREAKING KNOWS, ITS 3 YEARS AWAY.

What we are dealing with TODAY is that Pep will expect a maximum deal over the next few years and I can't see many other top GM's jumping at the chance to give it to him, so why should we? It makes more sense not to.

I'm sorry, all this trying to compare Peppers situation to Stewart's is ridiculous. Who knows where the team will be cap-wise and how Stewart will be playing in 3 YEARS.

The fact is, we have limited draft picks and are already squeezed under the cap and Peppers is going to demand maximum dollars for his services the next few years. Once again, maybe he's worth every penny the next couple of years, but you can't tell me he'll be worth it 5 years from now when we're still stuck in a big contract.

The best GM's in the league know it's better to cut ties and replace with young, cheaper talent, than it is to lock into risky long term contracts. Try to imagine how Indy or NE would handle this...no way they give him a long-term maximum deal.

Finally haha... but there will be a team go out and pay pepper the money he wants... as far as the patriots with the execption of the draft they normally target older players... Moss... Seau... Welker... Fred Taylor... I mean and rumors were they were lookin at pep last year teams want him and he has alot left in the tank I think I mean look at Jason taylor he's still playing good in my opinion

lol keep thinking that then...

You contradict yourself by the way, in that you say "WHO FREAKING KNOWS" on the Stewart front, but yet you are so sure of Pep's physical status and monetary intentions...

But yeah, disregard what I am saying... I've only been correct pretty much 98% of the time in regards to what will happen with Pep...

Comparing RB's to DE's? That rich.

Correction... RBs and DEs ARE rich...

But it's a valid comparison based on lifespan of the playing style...

For an even more valid comparison, Dwight Freeney is not even as good as Pep, and he was extended from his rookie contract to become the highest paid defensive player in the league...

We can get Pep for that price or even cheaper, yet the majority of the Pep haters will find some reason to invalidate that too...

As with any other player, it just depends on what Peppers wants. If we have to break the bank to pay him, it will not be worth it. If his salary demands are reasonable, then sign him.

Fwiw, if this is an uncapped year, can't we just pay him a big front loaded salary, and streamline the pay in the following years?
