Peppers, maybe he will stay?

I can certainly see how those words might point to Peppers returning, but at the same time it could be Peppers' way of saying, "No hard feelings."

He drew a lot of criticism for the way he handled things last year. Had he not said what he said and been open to only four "mystery teams," he may very well have been able to strike a deal with the Panthers front office to get out of town.

I think more than anything, the quote just shows that Peppers does not want to limit his options by criticizing the team, as he did last year.

Man, if we could somehow sign him longterm, that would really ease some of my concern this offseason. The coaching situation will work itself out. The only thing that would still suck major ass hair is the Delhomme fiasco.

I.... told....... you...... so.....

goddamn... Do we need a new thread for everthing Pep or someone relating to Pep says?

I've been telling you all along...

That you have. And, now, I think as long as it's a long term deal that maybe he should stay. I won't be pissed if he leaves though.

Overall Analysis

You can't be upset to see the Panthers' backups and reserves play like they did as a unit on Sunday. Without DeAngelo Williams, Steve Smith, Jeff Otah, Jordan Gross and Jonathan Stewart (for much of the 2nd half) the Panthers beat the Saints' backups. Its games like these that set you up for the ensuing season and give the team a lot of positives to really build on. The last month of Carolina Panther football has been a quite optimistic affair, and the team has made optimists out of the most pessimistic of fans due to their recent play.

Provided Jerry Richardson and Marty Hurney are able to make prudent, smart and beneficial decisions there is no reason the Panthers shouldn't be prepared to have a very special season in 2010. Sure, we don't have the flash of some other teams- but we have the toughness, and more importantly the defense; defense wins championships. Am I saying the Panthers will win the Superbowl in 2011? No, but what I am saying is that over time the Panthers improved from having the 30th ranked defense to finishing with the 8th ranked defense, and over the last 5 weeks the Panthers had the no.1 defense in the NFL against some of the best offenses. The future is very, very bright for the Big Cat's team- provided they handle the team with kid gloves.

With the defense playing like that towards the end of the season then you need to keep that group together... they are all use to the Meeks defense now and if we keep that unit together then we we would be unstopable next season.

Backup DE's are a dime a dozen...

If you get a player the caliber of Pep, you hang on to him as long as you can...

Well give me more backups that can do what C.Johnson did off the bench.at some point you have to move on from peppers if we resign him at 30 how much longer can he give us great years.

Thats what I'm saying. Guys, try to look past next season and what a long term deal would mean. We'd be committing lots of $$ for years to come when his contributions will only decline.

I've been a critic of Pep for a while, and I still think he's lazy most of the time, but this defense would not have been nearly as good without him. The attention he demands from offenses is vital because it allows other guys to generate pressure. Without Pep, teams won't have to double team any of our DE's and we won't pressure the QB much. Pressure is essential to our defense, and while I like Brown, Brayton and Johnson, I'm not sure they're ready to do it without Peppers. If he's willing to sign a reasonable long-term contract, I'd do it. We have the talent to win NOW, so yes, he might slow down in a couple years, but I'll be ok with that if we go win the Super Bowl sometime in the next couple seasons.
