Phantom Roughness Call

Captain did NOT grab him by the neck, he tackled him down with one arm.

The ball HIT Meachem's hand so how's that make him defenseless?

every single time a ball hits a player's hands and he gets jacked up they could throw the flag for hitting a defenseless receiver. This one looked bad so they did.

it said that in the rules you quoted.

it said included, which means it could be that, not it's all it is. For example, AKPantherFan's posts include inaccuracies. however, we all know that's not all that's in them. They also have blatant homerism, stupidity, racism, and are chock full of historical revisionism. However, we can say without being incorrect that his posts contain inaccuracies and not negate all the other wonderful qualities that make up AK's unique brand of steaming pile-o-posts.

English can be fun!

the blow came to the should pad

yeah it wasnt the hand that brought him down it was the contact from the initial hit, which was made by the shoulder pads. captain was holding on to make sure he didnt make the catch. Meachum fell weird and thats why he got hurt, nothing to do with the hit or being defenseless. i dont see how anyone can say with conviction that it was a legit call. even the refs were unsure.... say it with me: SUB-JEC-TIVE.

The big problem wasn't the fact that it was called unnecessary roughness...the problem was the lateness of the flag. Make the call or don't make the call...don't assess the seriousness of any injury THEN throw the flag.

Do I think it draws a penalty...yes...probably so. Maybe if we started receiving the holding calls 5 seconds after the play is over (Peppers is held...a lot) we might be more accepting of calls like this.

Billick who I am going to have to regard as more intelligent than Fiz agreed that it was a bad and subjective call.

G5: Damn, if only the holding I see got called half the time the ball would never move forward against us.
